How’s this for a model 12!

Beautiful in one respect yet deeply, deeply offensive to my sensibilities on another.

We used pumps primarily for waterfowling and rabbit hunting. It's beautiful, but....

That's an incredibly unlikely scenario you're painting!

That had to be a presentation piece. Who was the lucky man?

I don’t know.

It’s a custom Model 12 that is currently listed for sale online for $9500.
I have to admit, I’m a sucker for (admiring, not owning) classic guns with beautiful engraving.

I imagine it’s never been fired, and won’t likely be hunted. Whoever buys it will probably just pick it up and stare at it from time to time.

Years ago, Marty Rabeno offered to engrave a portrait of my favorite gun dog on my hunting gun. I didn’t ever take him up on it. I didn’t want to abuse our friendship, and I knew if I had a gun with his engraving I’d likely never hunt with that gun again. :)

There is a Winchester 1200 in the gun shop. It's stocked in wood and has been shot just enough to break the action into a silky smoothness.

I don’t care what anyone says. Slide actions are classy as long as the barrel is or was at one time blue.

You don't like the 1897 lever action or the plethora of bolt action shotguns you can find in any pawnshop?

I am a big model 12 fan...engraved and all gussied up or field model basic. I have a friend on another board that has a Winchester 42 (410 ga) that he has had custom engraved and special wood and it is stunning.

Mine are field grade guns...but I would never turn away a fancy one if someone offered...

Some day I would like to have my 28" barreled 16ga sent to Simmons for a solid rib, a re-blue and some new wood...not that it would shoot any better...just...well you know.

Here it is 1947 model all original and un-messed with...the joint is tight and it has never had the adjustment moved...tight old shotgun that shoots great. Not as pretty as the engraved one above...maybe someday :)

Model 12's are cool. I've always liked how they take down.

Today I learned that my Taurus Judge requires a specific type of .410 shell.
