A very nice find! I promised myself I wouldn't hunt for more till I get the stoves and the Sears lantern done. So I am in limbo
BTW--Did you see these are on sale? $8!!
I got a couple.

I came
this close to climbing into the rafters in my garage to bring down my Colemans today, sigh, but I did badly needed yard work instead

Enough of this dancing around the vital issues----let's get down to the nitty gritty of Coleman Lanterndom:
Mantles
tie-on OR clip-on?
Which do you choose and why?

Tie is the only way to go. Clip-ons are for rookies.
OK the real reason...I have Coleman Lanterns for the nostalgia, I like the "Old School-ness Coolness" of using them...so tie on is the way for me to go.

None of the above. LED lantern. So much easier and takes up less space.

What's a clip-on mantle?
Instead of a string, there is a little wire spring that holds the mantles on so you don't have to tie a knot.

OK on to the next pressing Coleman issue---
Do you pre-burn your mantles and let them cool before lighting so you don't smoke up the globe?
Do you pre-burn and light by cracking the valve so the mantles "balloon" out?
Do you just slap those mantles on and just let the devil take it from there?
Do you figure the new Coleman mantles are junk so none of those pre-lighting issues matter anymore?

You realize that if any of this info falls into the hands of the North Koreans, it'll be curtains for the free world, don'tcha know?

I am a pre-lite and cool guy. Just the other night, I was burning a 220J and a 200A and marveling on the durability of the mantles. I put them on over 2 years ago and both lanterns have traveled several times to the mountains across the state and back and are still burning brite.

That reminds me of a sky diver whose parachute wouldn't open. As he's plunging towards the earth and tugging at his rip cord he sees a spec approaching from below. The spec quickly grew bigger and he recognized it to be a scorched fellow travelling skyward. As they approached each other the exasperated sky diver called out "Hey pal, do you know anything about parachutes?"
The sky bound fellow replied "No. Do you know anything about Coleman stoves?"
This may have actually happened over Yosemite Valley.

More mantle madness:
After you tie on your lantern mantles, do you trim the excess strings?
That's been a failing of mine on too many occasions.
But suffered no deleterious effects.
Still I prefer to abide by the rules.
Do you trim your excess mantle strings?
How do you remember to bring a pair of scissors camping?
I do keep a small pair of cheap scissors in the first aid kit for cutting bandages, but they don't cut string very well.
