Lord, have mercy on this brother's soul and conscience, for he knows not that which he speaks. For ye created Scotch Whiskey (Whisky) to be enjoyed on thou holiest of days (That would be all the days ending in 'y'). So, prayeth the this fine group of gentlemen. Re: Whiskey
I WANT to like Bourbon better than Scotch. I really do WANT to. It somehow feels un-American to like Scotch better. But I do LOVE IT SO. I'm moving from the Sherried to the more peated Scotches now. I appreciate and enjoy some of the good Bourbons, but there is something about that corn taste that just isn't my cup of tea. I've had some Ryes I've really enjoyed (Bulleit), but need to taste more of them.
I always try to buy domestic products over imports if I can. I buy domestic wines, beer and clothes over imports most of the time. Oddly, I feel no such pressure when it comes to cars. Go figure.
And @ UB. A couple of drops of water can transform a spirit and really open it up. Try it.
AND.....for those of you who really want to learn something about Scotch, I highly recommend watching a few videos from Ralfy.com, or his YouTube channel Ralfystuff.com. Informative, AND entertaining from a genuine Scot.

Re: Whiskey
I've not tried Scotch. I've not tried rye.
I do like bourbon, but I'be only tried Woodford Reserve, Maker's Mark, Bulleit, and Buffalo Trace. For the money BT is hard to beat.
Any recommendations on some accessible scotch and rye?

There are many terrible attributes of the lowly cob. Not the least of them is that it makes you look like a doof.

Re: Whiskey
I recently bought some Bulleit Rye and I think it very good. Can't help you much on the Scotch front; if you're thinking "blended," I liked BallantIne's. Teacher's Highland Cream is remarkably inexpensive and for a long time was said to be astonishingly good for the price, with a very high percentage of malts in it, but last time I read anything about it, it was apoarently having issues with consistency. As far as single malts go, I liked the Ardbeg ten -year-old. Thecreviews said it had a smoky taste and it did not disappoint! Just a hint of sea salt. Loved it and would buy it again tomorrow if I were made of cash.
I don't always choose sig lines just to tick someone off, but when I do, it's on CPS.

Re: Whiskey
to me Scotch doesn't have that astringent "dose of medicine" finish that I get from Bourbon and from Rye, at least in neat form.
I have heard some folks say just the opposite though.

Re: Whiskey
Hmm can't say I've ever tried rye before. Was never a fan of bourbon or scotch. Although I drink a lot of Canadian whiskey, which in Canada is usually referred to as rye, not actually being one though. May have to pick up a bottle after work today.
