Trout are pretty much asleep here.
Glad to hear you're still fishing.

Had lunch with my youngest brother and SIL yesterday. My bro handed me a postcard for an open house at the fly shop in Estes Park in a few days. I didn't see Steven J. M. listed as one of the industry celebrities scheduled to attend but there are some other heavy hitters. John Gierach (my favorite author), Rick Takahashi & John Barr (inventors of a few favorite flies), and a few authors of regional fly fishing books that I've been meaning to pick up. This is the kind of deal I moved here for! Can't wait.

There's also a coupon for 50% off a single item. I'm pretty someone's getting a UV starter pack for Christmas.

EDIT: I've found myself practicing the pronunciation of Gierach so I don't stumble when/if I need to say his name in his presence. More than anyone else, his writing is what drew me in to this fly fishing deal and I fear I'll turn in to a quivering pile of jello in his presence. Maybe I should have a few snorts of scotch beforehand.

If you were a fish, you’d have eaten this, right? Found some running water yesterday, but no takers.

Some fish just don't know a good thing when they see it.

Toss a smallish black or red zebra midge next time. Size 16 or 20.

Or dredge the bottom with a 14-16 GRHE with split shot a foot or two above it.

Yesterday, during the Super Bowl, I ate a bowlful of cheese puff balls. I was not particularly hungry and they have zero nutritional value anyway, but they were in the pantry so it seemed I should eat them.

Now I understand why a spawning salmon eats a flashy full-dressed fly.

Just a few more hours. I need to be at DIA in two hours to retrieve the wife.

I’ll bet cheese puff balls would make good chum for certain fish.

I may or may not have used velveeta to catch fish when I was a boy.

Spent the morning with our neighbors and kids lugging trash out of a local stream. Most of it from hurricane flooding but lots of fishing line and even a crab net. Good reminder to clean up after yourself. Image
