Well, you had an “adventure” as my wife would say.

An adventure is when you spend half a day and a lot of sweat getting somewhere only to discover it wasn’t what you’d hoped it would be.

But you were out exploring together, so it was still a good day.
That's pretty much what I said. And Mrs FredS agreed as soon as she got her wind back. If you don't scrape your elbows or spend 10 minutes bent over with hands on knees trying to catch your breath once in a while you might as well be in the home. Besides, we have a bucket full of Tylenol to help ease the pain for a few days. We don't go to town on Friday nights looking for a fight anymore, but we're not dead yet.

I always seem to just catch really small trout and I’ve learned to be ok with that. As a result I don’t often take photos. This time however I asked my dad to snap a picture. They’re such lovely creatures.Image

They are and don’t worry about the size fish with pictures, especially if the pictures include images of the natural background you’re fishing in. That’s a big part of the “picture” when fishing, even for small trout.

To be fair, this is only my third time fishing down here, but I would appreciate any advice.

I went to the river and it was too muddy so I didn't bother. I am going to try the bayou tomorrow.

Spent an hour each at two different spots yesterday. The fish just swam by and mocked me.

Didn't catch anything today either. But I found a $100 bill on my way back from the pier.

Would have been more Biblical if you found it in the fish.

I guess you need a boat to get where the fish are.

Nah. That’s a long nasty slope to head down, chasing gear in the hopes that it will find fish. You just need to put the time into finding them. Use other people if possible, if not you just have to be willing to spend time studying, experimenting, and having some fruitless days.

Embrace it or you’ll be frustrated all the time. If we really just wanted a fish, we’d go buy it at the grocery store. ;)

Speaking of which, I’ve been fishing this lake since I was a kid and never caught anything this size until last weekend. The only one I caught that night, but it was a fun one. My 10 year olds eyes about popped out of his head when this thing jumped :)

I don’t know where you’re fishing. But it is early September and the water temps may indeed be pushing fish into deeper water. The trick is finding access to the right type of water without a boat. Also pay attention to oxygen levels, which can be effected by water flowing into an area and vegetation.

Thunk makes a great point, the lakes around here Have been very slow for the past month on account of high water temps, even out in the deeper water.

I had to Google "fishing almanac". I presume Fainn is talking about the solunar tables as you suggest. If so, I've never looked at those, personally. But I have a niece that watches them closely wrt deer hunting.

Fainn, being on the coast you should be monitoring the tides, even if fishing the local freshwater streams, as well as temps and other factors as those above have suggested. Sept-Oct is prime time for the Gulf. Especially when there's a storm out there.

I am monitoring the tides, but no luck so far. I read what other people were using as bait down here and where they were using them.
