Re: The fishing thread
Good news and bad. I got some pretty good bites tonight, but didn't realize the line was twisted and was unable to set the hook.

You're getting there. Learning what not to do is part of the deal.

I hope they can rebuild it over the winter.

Re: The fishing thread
I accidentally caught a spawning brown trout yesterday. It was in an area where I've caught rainbows before but never browns. It was a nice sized fish but was just about dead by the time I got him in the net. Took maybe five minutes to get him resuscitated enough that he could swim off. I stopped fishing after that but I did find some more redds (spawning beds) with nice fish on them. Besides being mindful of the next generation of fish, I just don't feel right about targeting spawning fish. Sort of how David felt after he sneaked up on Saul dropping a deuce.

Re: The fishing thread
I went fishing and camping with friends. My friends are also pipe smokers. I decided to smoke a pipe while fishing for trout last night. As I lit my pipe one of my buddies asked me what I was smoking. I just opened a tin of MCC FMOTT. He then informed me that such tins were selling for a couple hundred bucks now.
You know, ignorance is bliss sometimes. I really didn’t need to know that. The entire time I smoked that bowl I envisioned smoldering hundred dollar bills.
We did catch a few trout anyway.

Unlike freshwater fish, a flounder bite will be like a quick tug.

Re: The fishing thread
Lots of fishermen do, in winter, (salt water, anyway), on the middle Gulf coast. Trout and Reds move up into rivers and bayous - any deep channel. Flounder migrate out into the Gulf.
Lots of fisherman go fresh water, and set out trot lines or jug lines or throw lines for catfish, in just about any freshwater canal. Then in spring when Gulf waters warm up, they return to saltwater pursuits.
The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year, but rather that we should have a new soul.

Re: The fishing thread
Gulf toad fish perhaps. We call them dog fish, and they're common on the gulf coast.

I was also thinking maybe some sort of grunt, but those are offshore fish.
