I use a cork hung on my lanyard as a 'drying patch' and it was getting pretty crowded so I removed the flies and put them away in their boxes. Except these three. They were literally rode hard and put away wet.

Always amazes me how we fuss over our flies, then fish them and discover they seem to work about as well beaten all to heck as they do when pristine.

Those might still fool a hungry fish...Couple of weekends ago I was fishing an ehc and the fish chewed it down to a string of copper wire wrapped around the hook...it was still catching the cedars when my back cast was poor :)

Had someone take fly tying a little too literally...

I’ve been using Dr Slick standard scissors since I started and I still like them. I do have a cheap pair that was part of a garage sale find I use for corse stuff.

Thanks, Gabe. Sorry to leave you hanging. I went to edit the OP and stupidly deleted it before your reply hit. For the others, I had asked for opinions and feedback on scissors. Mine don't cut so well anymore and I want to make a good decision on a new pair.

I know it's hard to believe, but I don't always make good decisions on things the first time.

I also have a pair of Dr. Slick that I use for all around. I have 2 pairs, long handle and standard that feel like good quality but not as sharp as the Dr. Slicks, that I use for courser materiel and I have a small pair that I use just for wire and lead and such

I should have mentioned I stole a small pair of wire cutters from my tool box and use them quite a bit for wire, clumps of deer hair, etc. they cut flush on one side, so that can be very useful from time to time.

I also use razor blades for delicate work.

Dr Slick All Purpose 4" model here. I also have a cheap pair from J Stockard with a serrated arrow tip that work well for cutting deer/elk hair. The serrations 'grab' the hair instead of letting it slide towards the tip. I tie with the Dr Slick scissors always in my thread hand so I rarely bother to pick up the serrated ones. And honestly, the JS scissors 'feel' cheap with no heft to them. Dr Slick makes an economical line called ECO that I have no experience with.

Since I always have the Dr Slicks in hand, I use them to cut wire and lead from the spool. I cut those materials close to the pivot so as not to foul the business end.

The first pair of scissors I owned, from a Cabelas kit Mrs FredS bought me 15 years ago, now live in my fishing bag. It's handy to have a pair of scissors when you're on the water. I slip a little soft plastic tube over the tip to keep from stabbing myself when I'm fumbling around in there.

I use three pairs of scissors and a single-edged razor blade.
I've gone through zillions of scissors over the years, and I've had these three for at least a decade now.

By the way . . .

Tying is a sickness. I saw a picture today at work and the first thing I thought was "That would be a cool streamer". So I did a little prototyping (goofing off) when I got home.

The fly:
Size 2 Hook
Foam body
Mylar cord sheath

The inspiration:

Thoughts:
Too much tail.
Mylar is more transparent than I guessed. I should have been more mindful of the thread wrap pattern.
I'm going to fish it and see what happens.

Yes!

It will catch fish.
I’d bet my life on it.

I still need to tie up one of these:

Granted, the fish it catches will likely be deranged and completely out of touch with fish reality, but it will catch fish.
