There’s no denying that kid Gabe.

If you think he needs practice making flies, you could always have him practice making flies for me! I’ll take em. :D

What do you suppose it imitates?
The Parmachene Belle is obviously tied to imitate the natural Daredevil Spoon in it's adult state.

I've caught many bass with that red and white spoon. The more beat up it got the better it was. I remember paddling up a small bayou with my dad in Louisiana, and him saying "the bass up here have never seen a hook".

Anyway, sorry for the interruption. Continue on with the flies.

For your reading enjoyment (found this on another forum I frequent):

Fly Of The Month

The MNFotMRCaRSLotNC

We recently found an interesting fly description in the underground hunting/fishing newsletter the "Virginia Poachers Digest" that we thought we'd pass on to our readers. It is printed here through the courtesy of its publishers despite objections raised to any reference of the Digest by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

"The Androscoggin has its Special, the Beaverkill its Lady, and the Rapidan its Mr. While the names imply much by saying little about the fly, we here at VPD feel flies should be more descriptively named, perhaps containing the name of the specific section of stream upon which they were designed to be used or other pertinent information. We know of several innovative fly tiers who are giving us more information about their flies in the name and are using many new materials in their flies as well. This one comes to us from Mr. Harley Pickle of Wheezers Landing in Augusta County, and is named the Mr. North Fork of the Moorman's River Catch and Release Section Lady of the Night Caddis. (MNFotMRCaRSLotNC for short). Contained in this imaginative name is the stream, specific section for which it was designed, the insect it imitates, time to use it and/or possible choice of the evening's angling companion.
We found the MNFotMRCaRSLotNC to be particularly effective about midnight and cropped the excess population of trout from several good pools with it on our local catch and release stream, however, before readers use it, it is advisable to first take our home study course in Game Warden and Constabulary Evasion ($29.95 - see page 13. Also available on home video.)

MNFotMRCaRSLotNC
Hook: #12 Blue Ridge Nibblet Special
Abdominal dubbing: Belly fur from a buck lemming
Antennae: Two sprigs of Yak's beard
Thorax: urine stained fur from the hind parts of a sow moose. (It is a bit tough to come by out of hunting season, but if you know anyone who has a fresh, steady year round supply, he's the bravest person you'd 'll ever know.)
Wing: a Made in USA tag from Black Moonglow Nighties from Frederick's of Hollywood folded tent style along the back of the fly. (While these may be a little embarrassing for you single guys to purchase, they can still be found in the wild with a bit of extra effort.)"

Our thanks to the publisher of this fine magazine, available under the counter of purveyors of fine sporting goods statewide.

Over on a bird hunting site that I visit, they are talking about albino and light color phased game birds. There are some pics and I just keep thinking, "...Man those would be great feathers to tie flys with" 8)

Once you buy salmon fly hooks you are totally screwed.

Those hooks are so pretty.
Those flies are so cool.
They’re worse than potato chips.

You can’t tie just one hundred.

Really nice fly, Gabriel.

Remember, you're safe here Gabriel. We know that one hundred salmon flies is not nearly enough salmon flies. Even if you never fish for salmon. We'll even tell your wife that if you need backup.

That is a nice one.

Seriously. Tying on these hooks is addictive. I have no practical need to use them, and can rarely afford them but... dang.

Goldfish, shmoldfish.
Koi, shmoi. (Koi are just carp putting on airs.)

That’s a golden carp. (Or so we call ‘em.)
They’re all cousins - Cyprinidae.

And yes, they fight like hell and run like bonefish.
Fantastic on the fly!

This is an old regular who wanted to give them a shot. A world famous trout river was right behind us, but he wanted a carp.
That was his first carp on a fly and he was jazzed!

Nice....

Tom Rosebauer did an April 1st podcast on fly fishing for koi. Funny stuff.

I haven’t had as much tying time this winter as I’d like, did work on this streamer using more of my SS feathers tonight:

Anyone getting tying time in over the winter?

I think I've mentioned it somewhere on here before, but we used to flyfish for the carp in Buffalo Bayou in Houston but I never caught one, even with a Siene Bean on the hook.

I'm not. We bought a smaller house last fall and I don't have my own tying room any more. All my stuff is in the basement. It's a fine basement but it's also full of Mrs FredS's art crap and it's a huge mess. I've put in some nice LED lighting and started a shelving system but it'll be awhile before it's organized and I dislike working in an unorganized space. So, no fly tying 'till everything is put away in it's proper place.

I'm getting my fly fix vicariously through you.
