Yes on both accounts.

And seeing how The Band did a Springsteen song better than him, here is one he does better than the original.

Re: Song Covers That You Think Are Actually Better Than the Original
Creedence Clearwater Revival John Fogerty's The Blue Ridge Rangers album (1973) came right on the heels of CCR's breakup. Fogerty's voice here was still very strong and gruff as it was with CCR. This is his version of an old Hank Williams country/western classic. To me, his version of Jambalaya is way above Williams

I like Metallica's cover of Turn the Page better than the original by Bob Seger.
Also, Dave Matthews Band w/ Warren Haynes played Cortez the Killer better than Neil Young:

Thats one of my favorite songs to play. I actually saw the Kenny Wayne Shepperd band in 2007.

I haven’t seen him live, yet. I’ve liked him since the first time I heard him play.

Speaking of Kenny Wayne Shepherd & songs that I think are better than the original, I believe this is my all-time favorite performance of Voodoo Child - no disrespect intended to Jimi Hendrix, or SRV:

Almost anything the guy from Frog Leap studios does. I especially like his collabs with Hannah Boulton.
