The 2017 Christmas Juxtaposition Thread

Post by DepartedLight » Tue Dec 26, 2017 7:37 pm

My cousin proposed to his GF of several years. The absolute awesomeness around those details will remain close to the vest.

A fellow workmate passed away while on vacation with his family snorkeling in Hawaii. His daughter was the little girl that gave me my first To Santa Crayon Drawing suitable for framing and magnetic refrigerator displaying. That was my first year of many as Santa with he and his family.

This is Christmas. My nonno was born and died on Christmas Day. Life and death continue. But, for me, my joy was watching my kids welcome the infant Jesus into the world for the first time. Blessings always come with pain. Some say the pain helps you see the blessing.

I can't juke you, man. You know better than the rest of us. I love you, fuggles.

No. Look at the Icon.

The center is Christ at the Nativity.

Why did He come?

His manger is shown as a sarcophagus.

Personally, I suspect the donkey is up to no good.

Am I wrong in only seeing a manger? Looks like a trough to me, but even if it's a sarcophagus, we shouldn't forget Christ died, too.

But how about I just drop it, admit I see but darkly, and pray with you? I'd rather do that,

Truly sorry about your loss, DL.
True friends are rare and precious.

My first wife had a blood draw for a CBC on Christmas Eve in 1986.
We were told she had leukemia the day after Christmas. She passed away a year later.

Four years later, I married Debbie who was our hospice nurse.
30 years later, our home is filled with children and grandchildren.
I can hear them laughing as I write.

My dear brother’s birthday is December 25.

Life is rarely easy, but every day is filled with wonder.
And gratitude.

hrm <then add that sound made when one blows through his nostrils>

As is often the case, I have poorly communicated my point.

Yeah, there was sadness. But that sadness feeds some seriously sweet memories. The cherish level I already had for that little slice of life went up considerably.

The various Iconography of the Nativity is packed full of images to show these juxtapositions.

The one in the OP is my favorite from the ancient days of serious study.
