And I'm sure Rusty thought of this and has a spreadsheet for them, but make sure the family knows his collection of pipes and tobacco is worth money. There are people who can help sell it for a fair price, if they'd like to / when they're ready to. All too often the family doesn't know that there's a little investment waiting for them in the pipe cellar, and it's given away for pennies.
I know, I thought about that too, all those pipes and tobaccos and fountain pens... when I die my wife knows what to do, but I sometimes think about the people who will be smoking my pipes some day when I’m gone.

:(
I am deeply saddened to hear this news.

Prayers for the family.

Rusty was a sort of a mentor for me with regards to esoteric tobacciana, and the methods he engaged in dialogue were very instructive, and taught me very much of how to see things in a better light, although he could rap your knuckles, it was always done in a professorial style I think, and my time spent conversing with him was incredibly enriching.

It may be difficult for a nonsmoking layperson to understand why someone would take pipe tobacco so seriously, but Rusty surely did. He was well-versed in all the involved intricacies (esp. regarding old UK stuff) and he openly shared his knowledge. He was one of the most erudite people I've ever encountered, and I'm sure that trait applied all across the spectrum, not just with pipe tobacco.

Rusty was inimitable and I doubt his shoes will be filled.

He has left an amazing archival record here at CPS which I think will remain peerless in the online world. He dove so deep and thoroughly into the details, laying down precise schematics of minutia that others may overlook or disregard. His writing style made the reading a true pleasure too.

I'll miss you Rusty.

Sometime back there was a rash of sock puppets. It was all in fun but it got out of hand and most were deleted. I came up with Busty and planned to use Rusty’s current avatar and pose as him knowing it would fool some at least for a short time. I changed my mind as I wasn’t sure Rusty would appreciate it. I also didn’t want to endure the wrath of the entire forum if indeed Rusty was not amused. Rusty knew more bout tobacco and pipes than anybody else. I’m expendable Rusty was not.
