Ketogenic lifestyle

Ketogenic way of life.

I've started on a ketogenic diet. If you've not heard about keto, its basically a high fat, moderate protein and low carb way of eating.

Keto diet is around 75-80% healthy fats, 15-20% protein and around 5% carbs.

As many of you may or may not know, I went on a Mediterranean diet a while back. I had lab and blood work done before and again sometime after.

Weight was down, blood pressure down, cholesterol was a little high still but still good enough to avoid meds. My blood sugar was up tho, presumably from the fruit. Carb consumption was very high on the Mediterranean diet.

I've switched to the keto diet which is in short just cutting carbs, limiting protein and upping healthy fats and this puts your body in ketosis, while in ketosis, your body burns body fat instead of stored glucose.

You will not be hungry and you will lose weight and gain energy at the same time. This will end carb cravings and food addiction.

It's a great diet for overweight individuals, diabetics, as it gets blood sugar and insulin levels back under control, folks wanting to drop blood pressure and cholesterol and many other health benefits.

It's not a "diet" per se, it's a lifestyle change. I've seen and read of morbidly obese persons safely losing over 100 pounds in under a year, without hunger and WITH eating LOTS OF CHEESE AND BACON! :cheese: :bacon:

Check it out!

If you have extra pepperoni on your pizza, will that cancel out the carbs?

Our daughter in law does this, and sells some sort of keto drink to go along with it. I may just check it out.

Bacon. Eggs. Almonds. Steak. Italian sausages. Raw veggies. Bourbon.

YMMV.

This is what I try to do. The fam doesn't embrace it so there's always super yummy pastries and stuff I have to say no too. It can be a drag. That said the fam is way closer than the old days in making low carb meals.

I've lost weight a number of different ways, but the only way that produced meaningful loss that lasted was the keto way. While I'm not strictly compliant I have followed these principles for several years now. I'm 60+ pounds lighter than I was 15 years ago and haven't had to work hard to keep it off.

Now staying motivated to lose more weight is a matter for another thread.

I'm trying it now. Can't poop.

It works. Body fat is down and I'm looking tighter. I feel good too, except for the pooping part. And it is hard to sustain that kind of diet in a family with six children living at home. I'll probably just go back to low carb, no added sugar.

I have been on Atkins...Low Carbs since Jan 5th this year. Did really well till March. Lost 12 lbs. I miss a good sandwich. The meat is great and I am ok with no potatoes but you can't make a sandwich. I kind of took a couple of weeks off...but I am back now with limited carbs. I had burgers last night with no bun and cottage cheese.

I just got done eating a snack. I mixed a tablespoon of coconut oil into a drained can of tuna and sprinkled some Mrs. Dash on it. It was pretty good. The oil cut the fishyness and the Mrs. Dash added some spice.
