Pick Up Trucks

I really like what Chevrolet did with the styling of the new 2019 Chevy Silverado

I am not much of a truck guy. I can drive a Ford or a Chevy without a care in the world. Lets not act like there isn't a dominating force on the market right now... the Denali.

I dearly miss my mint green USFS surplus Chevy 4x4.
It never got more than 12 mpg. So I don't miss that part.

But when you compare the front designs of the GMC to the Silverado, side by side, it's quite obvious which one wins in terms of appeal. Some folk really out to lunch on the design of the Denali. And they are both GM products. How did that happen?

Gosh, I'd love to have me one of these Silverados. Maybe I will wait and see what deals they have on the '19s next Fall.

I love my little nerd car, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't dearly miss having a truck . I don't need a big phallic truck, or even full size PU of any style, but if I wanted the payment I'd go out and buy a Nissan Frontier today. I've had two of them and they were outstanding vehicles.

I really like what Chrysler did with the Dodge Ram 2500 in 1990 - stuck in an optional straight 6 Cummins Turbodiesel motor. Arguably the most durable, easy to work on, and economical large pick-up motor made. That first gen Cummins was available through 1993, I believe.
I want one, for real, anyone know anyone who has one for sale?

As I do. I sold my Ranger for basically salvage money (it had a badly cracked head) 3 years ago. I was 54 then. I think it was the first time since I was 17 that I didn't have a truck in the stable. It wasn't so bad at the time because I could always borrow a shop truck from work or even from one of my son-in-laws. But where I live now I'm truly truckless. It's not a good feeling, the thought of paying someone else to bring me a load of dirt or a new recliner, so I bought a trailer.

I sold my perfectly good F150 earlier this year. I'm thinking that might have been a mistake. Actually I want a midsize truck. In the meantime I drive my little German car and wait for my old Jeep to get restored.

Seems like all we can get in the US are regular sized trucks and king-sized trucks. I swear my 2003 Ranger was the same size as my dad's 1954 F-150. Three adults could scrunch uncomfortably in the bench seat of both. A Colorado, Tacoma, or Frontier is a full sized truck while a F-150, Silverado, or Tundra is a yuge truck. These new king-sized four doors are 21' long!

The good news is that Ford will start selling the Ranger in the US again in 2019! I have no idea why they walked away from the segment a few years ago but you can bet the new Rangers will sell like gangbusters over the next few years as guys ditch their old and clapped out Rangers in favor of a new one.

I had one of these when I lived in Silverton:

‘64 GMC V6 that had been a Forest Service truck.
Man, I hauled a lot of fire wood in that thing.

I sold it to a friend, Mike White, who owned a trash hauling service named, no kidding, “White Trash.”

I’ve been driving Jeep Cherokees ever since.

Yes, the newer “midsize” trucks seem close in size and capability to the older half tons. I’ve been waiting on the new Ford Ranger. I will get the FX4 trim just like my F150 had. However, I should’ve kept the F150 for now, but I didn’t know I would be visiting construction sites with crews now. Selling that truck really wasn’t my best move. While not doing much construction work myself, dropping off and picking stuff up from the job site are part of the gig. Getting out of little German car wearing jeans, western style work boots and belt just seems kinda weird. Yet that’s what the team wears. Putting muddy tools in a little VW sportwagen is priceless.

A pictorial history of my trucks (not my photos, but accurate representations). I miss all of them except the '95 Ram. It was the biggest POS I've ever owned and ruined the whole brand for me for life.
