One Hit Wonders And Why

Post by Goose55 » Tue Oct 02, 2018 1:27 pm

Ever wonder why some hits are one and only ones by a recording artist? Here's a good example. "Surfin Bird" by (could not be a more appropriate name) The Trashmen (1963)

One hit wonders are one hit wonders because they happened to have a good song. In fact, the song may not even be that good but if it has a catchy chorus that can hook listeners then it might be a hit. It's all about the song, not the artist(s).

20 years later, Tal Bachman is still playing his one hit in bars across North America. It's a catchy song. I remember there was a time when I couldn't listen to the local rock FM station without hearing this song at some point during the morning drive. It was getting airplay on the rock station, and the adult contemporary stations. It was catchy enough for me to buy his album. Like so many others I was quite disappointed to find that the other 11 songs weren't all that great.

But for Hov, haven't had much response to this one hit wonder "Surfin Bird" by (could not be a more appropriate name) The Trashmen (1963)

Wait....did Jim just change the rules of this thread?

I'm confused now. Should I post "True" by Spandau Ballet or a Van Halen song?

I'm sorry. I forgot that some people think Pink Floyd had more than one hit.

Sure thing. It's on the internet, so it must be true. <wink wink>
