Well, my Christmas CPS hiatus was short-lived, but a package from Secret Santa containing some very nicely wrapped gifts was received today so I wanted to post a pic and say thanks.

Image

This package was well worth waiting for, and worth the time to post. There's a Sherlock Holmes devotional, a nice Arturo Fuente cigar, a very nice antler tamper/tool, and two tins of some very fine tobacco. The original formula Balkan Sasieni tin is dated 1986. I'll be opening it soon. The Margate will wait, I think.

Thanks again, Secret Santa, and Merry Christmas.
I'm old but I'm happy. (Most of the time.)

A large box arrived today! I will open it tomorrow morning. I also plan on indulging in the contents after we return from Grandma's house.

Over the river and thru the hood, to Grandmother's house we go. . . (Yes, her house is on the other side of the Fox River from our house. Also the neighborhood next to the Fox River is not the most desirable.)

My daughter was mean to me. She made sure that my SS box was the last present she handed out!

I still don't know who my SS is. But thanks for the Spilman Mixture tin, two Mark Twain cigars, a Little Devil corn cob pipe and a really cool pipe stand with a tobacco jar. After dinner at Grandma's house, I plan to light up one of these cigars and perhaps initiate the new pipe.

Thanks Uncle Bob for initiating this Secret Santa! Everyone has a enjoyed the effort you put into this.

I am still wondering who I am thanking. This was a great experience.

I was not participating this year but Mustangii sent me a note to let me know that I have a parcel heading here anyways ... That guy is something else.

That’s me this year. I still haven’t spent a lot of time trying to guess my Santa, but the generosity of folks here still amaze me.

This is way behind the eight ball but many thanks to Bloodhound for an awesome Secret Santa gift. Presented in an awesome box to boot!

I've always wanted to try Jack Knife Plug but it always seemed to be put on the backburner when I made a tobacco order. Well it was the first time from him that I opened up. It has a full 7 years of age on it and it smokes wonderfully. It's not sweet by any stretch of the imagination but it had an undertone of sweetness that I wasn't expecting. I'll post a full review as I get more familiar with the blend.

Very nice! I'm surprised you haven't had the Jack knife plug before now, seems like something that would be right up your alley. I really enjoyed the few tins that I've picked up over the years. For what it's worth, my favorite way to smoke it is cube cut. Slice some flakes, then cut across the flakes to make cubes. Slow burning and fantastic.

So, funny story...

I’m a bit gun shy when it comes to cube cut. I had a bad experience while smoking cube cut tobacco. I don’t remember the brand exactly, maybe C&D or Uhle’s but in the midst of smoking I was overcome with a sudden sneeze. I blew burning cubes all over myself and happened to be seated when it happened. Burning cubes found the folds of my pants near my sensitive bits and almost roasted my chestnuts. Needless to say I cut some thin slices of Jack Knife Plug and rubbed them out to begin with...

It most certainly is, especially in a Bialetti Moka Express.

Sorry, but I cracked up when I read this, I have done a similar thing while kayaking, turns out that hot embers instantly burn through bathing suit material in contact... not fun.

Glad you are enjoying the Jack Knife. I pre ordered 3 tins when it was announced and that is the last tin. The age should round it out some.
