Favorite James Bond movie

Post by Nature of a Man » Wed Dec 05, 2018 3:14 am

I was wondering what others' favorite Bond movies are. (I'm assuming Hugo Drax is a Bond fan, I'm not sure about the others).

I was a fan of Timothy Dalton's films (The Living Daylights, and Licence To Kill) even though he wasn't the most popular Bond, and tended to dislike Roger Moore's films the most since they seemed too "campy" to me, but it's been a long time since I watched them.

As far as the newer Bond films with Daniel Craig go, I have some mixed feelings, but I really liked the most recent ones (Skyfall and Spectre) - my thoughts were that they attempted to get back to James Bond's roots, while some had complained that the Craig films had strayed too far and seemed too much like generic action films.

How long, exactly, is your idea of a "long time"? Aren't you in your mid 20s or thereabouts?

I generally don't pick favorites, but I will say this:

Timothy Dalton was my least favorite Bond - he always seemed too bitter.

Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore both made the role a bit too light-hearted and/or comical...and frankly, some of their movies were awful, but that was more a product of the script (and possibly the directing) than the actors.

Sean Connery and George Lazenby both did well, but they were definitely products of their time and don't come across well to today's audiences.

Daniel Craig does pretty well. He comes across as borderline sociopathic, but it works. His movies do tend to be a bit more like a lot of the current action movies, but I don't think they've gone too far down that road...yet.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

Some of the films I watched back as a teenager during the days when VHS tapes were still a thing.

I've heard some people say that Dalton and Craig were more accurate to the novel version of Bond, and that he was portrayed as a more bitter character than in the films - but I haven't read many of the novels (when I was a teen, I listened to the audiobook version of Goldfinger, but that was it).

Maybe Casino Royale, which isn't really a James Bond movie
I used to like James Bond movies.
I did until around my 19th birthday.
I used to like the Beatles too until one morning I woke up and didn't anymore.

It's funny how that happens.
I still get a kick out of The Pink Panther movies though!

Well, if we’re doing this, my actual favorite is Kingsman.

Have not seen that many James Bond films but enjoyed "Dr No" and "Diamond Are Forever."

Hm...

Timothy Dalton in "Living Daylights"
Pierce Brosnan in "Goldeneye"
Daniel Craig in "Casino Royale"

The Roger Moore era is kinda fun, but I put them all in the same category and would have a hard time picking one above the others.

Sean Connery IS James Bond, so there is that.

This is probably my age showing, but all the earlier ones (Connery, Moore) are so outdated with regards to women as to make them almost hard to watch from time to time.

I like the way Gabriel was going with this . . .

Connery - Thunderball
Lazenby - On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Moore - Live and Let Die (Best theme song too)
Craig - Skyfall

My cousins were JB freaks and drug me to every one of the movies that were out in the summer time when I was hanging out with them. They were OK, but I never really got into the movies. I read a few of the novels. I thought they were better than the movies...

I was more into the cop movies and westerns
