The New 777X. If It Isn't Boeing, I'm Not Going

Post by Goose55 » Sat Jan 05, 2019 6:55 am

This is way cool. Early last year, GE Aviation successfully tested its giant jet engine, the GE9X, in its first test flight. Now, nearly a year later, Boeing has installed two GE9X jet engines on its first 777X flight test airplane.

Goose strikes are real. Almost no pun intended.

Man, that is some awesome engine. And it can still operate with 5,000 gallons per minute of rain going through it.

It's cool they were able to find a 747 passenger ship to test it on!
747 passenger liners are getting rather rare these days as most are being pulled from service to be cannibalized for parts to keep the 747 freighter fleet flying.

Pretty awesome GE jet engines to fly the 747 with just 2 engines.

A B-52 can fly with 5 engines shutdown provided the remaining engines are not all on the same wing.

I wasn't aware that the B-52 was so flawed :box:

Ths B-52 is a lot of things but flawed is not one of them.On long flights the crew has been known to shut down four engines so they can sleep. No one is the wiser unless they will not restart. In that case they must declair an inflight emergency.Fire trucks line up along the runway. The commandor is there waiting to debreif the crew.

Hoping to be on a group, Friends of Hillsdale College tour of Israel in Jan 2020. Not likely the 777X will be available yet. Maybe we'll be lucky and have a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Part of testing at Peebles facility is they'll shoot birds at the engines. It's pretty cool.
