Theimpudent texted me this:

Psalm 127:1

127 Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.

Theimpudent also said that a true Christian just turns the other cheek, therefore there is NOT a need to defend yourself or others.

Disclaimer: I am def not a badass or a tough guy.

I've always enjoyed Martial Arts. I have a background in wrestling, Aikido, Wu Ying Tao, Kali, Escrima, bits of Jeet Kune Do, Sul Sa Do, some Tae Kwon Do and several years of traditional Wing Chun. Some or parts of any of this can be useful against the untrained or Intoxicated persons.

There was no MMA yet when I was coming up. Those guys are truly awesome.

A Glock fits the need to defend oneself in my estimation.

If possible, Mr. Tank, I'd suggest getting a permit now, if it possible, whether or not you're ready to use it at the moment. That way, if your mind changes, you're instantly ready.

I originally got mine not to carry, but in case I accidentally did something wrong on the way to or coming back from the range. Basically so I wouldn't fall afoul of Pennsylvania law. But when I got my first death threat, it was nice to be able to immediately carry, not wait the approximately two weeks it would have taken at the time.
This +++
I let my CCW lapse when we had little kidlets scampering all over the place. I still had my 1911 but I kept that secure for HD.
When they started issuing CCWs again I re-applied and got a new one.

It's worth the effort to get one in CA if your local SO or PD allows.
Pray you never need to use it.

The Glock 43 is on my short list if I actually go through with CCW.

I have a friend who destroyed his body with martial arts. Likely being the dummy thrown around the floor. Glad he won't read my post
Because he learned a ton and would whoop yer ass in 2 moves if he did?

I carry a firearm with me everywhere I am permitted by law and may or may not everywhere else as well. Pulling the gun is my next to last resort and pulling the trigger is absolute last. My first defense is avoiding known bad situations.

If the politicians in power have there way here in CA, everything pertaining to firearms is going to get licensed and taxed up to the wazoo and only the well heeled elites will be able to afford a firearm.
I suspect this won't hold up in court unless it is determined that Constitutional Rights are required to be licensed and taxed.

Some PDs and SOs (like mine) have been very generous with CCWs lately and will tell you flat out whats coming down from Sac isn't going to be good and getting "grandfathered in" is the best option, even if it is just to transport your HD firearm to the range and home again.

I keep a pistol with me most of the time. I was afraid I'd need it in an almost road rage incident a couple weeks ago but fortunately it didn't get that far.

Back in the 70’s I asked a guy if it would be safe to come and visit him in New York City. I had heard he lived in one of the roughest areas there. He just laughed and said I would be fine. He said the only white people to visit his area was with the Mafia so nobody messed with a white person.

Practicing situational awareness is key.
If you can avoid a threatening situation, that is a victory!
Not looking like a potential victim is also crucial.

Park in well lighted areas.
Always open the passenger door for a lady so you can see if anyone is hiding.
Avoid walking past vans and trucks that will obstruct your vision.
Give alley entrances and doorways a wide berth.
Notice what's going on around you, and walk with a purpose.
Carry items in your weak hand, leaving the other free for immediate blocking, grabbing or punching (and lose that grocery bag!)
Walk so your lady's purse is between you and her.

An attacker has time on his side, the time to study and identify you!
An attacker has the environment on his side, he picks the location to his advantage.

Feel free to add to the list.
