Well, I went to my appointment at the ANYTIME FITNESS gym near home and signed up.

My fitness instructor, "Emily," is young and very cute enough to ensure an enthusiastic commitment for the next month or so.

I went to Discount Shoe Warehouse and bought some new shoes, sweatpants and workout shorts.
Now you have to give us daily updates.
I don't always choose sig lines just to tick someone off, but when I do, it's on CPS.

I'm sure Emily will, no doubt, be impressed by your sweat pants.

There's more than one way to be impressed. As a matter of fact, from some people, the words I most dread are, "I'm impressed."

The Jim life ain't as glam as you think it is, my brothers.
My Dad nicknamed me 'Jim'. After Jim Hawkins of Treasure Island. My real name is about as far as you can get from 'Jim'.
That's right, Jam!

Good idea. Something to do between now and when this gets boring.

Today is my "real" introduction to the gym. Apparently, my first appointment was just the sales pitch.

I suspect that, first thing, Emily is going to hand me off to Bluto.

Don't forget to yell really loud when you're doing bench presses so everybody will know how much you are suffering.

Probably not. I’m still with the trainer (Virginia) that I initially met with at the gym. It’s their job, so doing a handoff would hurt their business.

I hear the ladies like water aerobics. Should be a good fit for guys that wear skirts. :P

I never thought I'd be the kind of guy who get's up early to go to the gym.
I was right.
I'm with FredS.

Personally (not speaking for FredS here), I've never played sports or been athletic. I know I'll never have a gym membership.

As I approached retirement age we got a new pup. She loves to walk. We started with a mile once or twice a day. Now (6 years later) I'm retired and walking 5 to 7 miles/day. I've lost about 20 lbs.

The benefit of a dog is that once you get them into the routine, they will stare at you with those soul-burning eyes until you take them for a walk.

After you drop out of the gym get a dog.

Had my first session with Bluto today. Learned some of the equipment and some exercises.

We built a decent 45-minute workout. 20 to 30 minutes of cardio on elliptical and cycle, followed by some core strength exercises.

So.... Off to a good start!

Then I took Pipeson out for a Happy Birthday lunch -- a more-than-we-could-eat-and-drink session at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Somehow, I think I'm still not doing this right.

Imma getting used to the gym.

Emily acts like I'm invisible, but I'm used to this. I've been a middle-aged man for a long time now.

Bluto is going to teach me how to throw some kettle bells tomorrow, and that's really what this is about. I'm happy.

The gym has a tanning bed! I'll use it some this winter, so I won't have scary white legs to show at the Pipe Show next May.

What do our brothers in Scotland wear at the gym?

I have a family membership at one gym, and my medicare part F includes a Silver Sneakers membership at another, whether I want it or not.
I was told that every time I check in, they'll kick in to a scholarship fund.
Claire's tuition comes due early next month---I need to find out how to access this loot.

An extra benefit of going to the gym is you get to watch the young women prance around in the their spandex gym attire. The yoga mats are right next to the treadmills at my gym but I try not to look too much. Been caught looking a few times.
