Get ready for all the reports about how the people resisting the vaccine are hindering herd immunity. You'll be told that you still have to mask and social distance even if you're vaxed because of a group of selfish holdouts.
It's time to start shunning the 'vaccine hesitant.' They're blocking COVID herd immunity.

Keep in mind that it's not about health and safety. It's about power & control.

In an odd way, this is actually good. Once the "vaccinated" become walking virus factories, we don't want them anywhere near us anyway.

Well yeah. Are saying those who don't get vaccinated are not hindering herd immunity?

Whether it's your obligation to promote herd immunity or not is a whole 'nother question.

Another interesting thought is how one feels about social shaming in an effort to encourage behavior that may be beneficial to ones community. We used to "shame" adulterers, drunkards, drop outs, and slackers unwilling to work in support of their families. Now we're seeing that directed towards smokers - who's healthcare costs may be a burden to the community - and anti-vaxers who may be hindering herd immunity.

I am reluctantly getting my first dose on Friday. Pfizer.

I am still a little scared. I don't like the fact that it is a a new vaccine based on new technology that does not have formal FDA approval and hasn't been in the population long enough to know what the long term side affects might be. In addition to all that, what really scares me is how a LOT of people that I know have suffered severe short term side affects. So much so that it is expected around here that you'll take a day off work. That isn't normal with any other vaccine that I know of, and yet it's acceptable? I guess I'll see if the juice is worth the squeeze.

At the end of my appointment scheduling with the Department of Health I was asked why I'm getting the vaccine. I answered truthfully, "Social pressure and because I want to walk around freely in the land of the free."

I will still maintain good hygiene, cover my face, and not touch people in public. I think those are still the best bet.
2 bad reasons to get it. You're already free, our freedoms aren't based on whether or not you got a vaccine.
I already have my papers.

The liberal / left have been using that paper to wipe their collective ass for decades now. Not sure how effective that's gonna be.
Ah, but we know that it is God not the Government who gives us certain unalienable Rights, among which are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Our natural human rights (and our natural human duties) come from God -- the author of our human nature.

But when our government violates the natural law and fails to secure our rights for us.... then it is no longer our government. It is just some sort of tyranny over us.

It doesn't matter much that they let us enjoy the pretense of an election.

The vaccines are supposed to be nearly 100% effective at protecting the ones that got them. WTF do they care if I get one or not?!?!?

I say again, this has become a huge experiment to see how quickly and easily the government can control the masses. Mandates were put in place by one person in the name of "a public health emergency." Watch closely for what else that phrase is applied to. I don't care what healthcare decisions y'all make for yourselves. I still love you.

Someone is lying.

The vaccines either work or they don't. They're telling us they work and acting like they don't. The conclusions you must draw from this is 1) they don't work, or 2) this isn't about COVID, regardless of whether the vaccines are effective.

Why are you told to mask up and social distance after getting a vaccine that is 95-100% effective against a virus that you are already 99% likely not to die of without it? We are being told that the experts are just following the science, but based on their continual flip flops--not spin, the actual words from their mouths--the science is either schizophrenic or they are lying to us.

Now if it isn't about COVID and it is about control, then what are the anti-vaxers really hindering? Herd immunity for a population of which 99% will survive? Why did they tell everyone after they got vaxed that they'll need another within 12 months? Oh, and again every year after that? Why all the freak out about Texas and Florida re-opening without masks? Doom and gloom and fearmongering. None of it came to fruition.

COVID may be real, but it's being used to condition and control people. And when people resist it isn't a threat to health, it's a threat to their control.

No one claims the vaccines (COVID or any other) are 100% effective. Even for the vaccinated, a significant percentage will get the virus if exposed. I'm not saying this should require a vaccine mandate, continued sanitation theater and/or mask mandates, or antivaxxer shaming, but there is a good reason for the vaccinated to want everyone else to get vaccinated (or first sick then dead or recovered, which serves the same purpose of reducing the threat of contracting the virus).

I think it's ridiculous how politicized this whole thing has become on both sides, filled with conspiracy theories, groupthink, and lies equally. But let's at least avoid factual errors around claimed vaccine efficacy rates.

The effectiveness was advertised as up to 95%. I believe I heard some even saying up to 97%. I tend not to believe those numbers, but it is even more hog wash being spread by the media and the "experts."

Actually the vaccines don't take full effect until you post a selfie of your vaccine card. Bonus efficacy if your Band-Aid is showing. Maximum effect if the pic includes the needle in your arm.

There are 2 efficacy numbers - contraction of the virus, and mortality. As with anything like this, the actual numbers will only reveal themselves as it rolls out, but it's likely somewhere above 90% (contraction) for the mRNA vaccines (probably significantly higher for mortality and hospitalization protection). Still, even if it's 97% for contraction (I'm sure it isn't that high), when you do the math on 330,000,000 people that's still almost 10,000,000 people who COULD (not WILL) be vaccinated and still contract the virus - high enough for those vaccinated to have a vested interest in everyone else being vaccinated.

Showing your vaccination card on social media, like wearing your double masks while driving alone in your car (or Zoom meetings with other world leaders), gives you extra "virtue signaling" protection, as we all know.

Outside and in areas that I control, like my house, not any.

I will continue to keep it up in public spaces and private businesses where the owner wants it.

So really, nothing has changed.

I don’t consider masks a big deal. If it puts someone at ease so I can minister to them, Ill wear one. If a store or other place of business requires it, Ill wear one.

Our church leadership requires them for our worship services - so Ill wear them there too. During the week, I only put them on when meeting someone coming into our church offices. Otherwise I don’t wear them at this point for small defined meetings (elder, staff, min teams, etc.).

Our state (OR) is careful to not require churches to comply with mandates. They make recommendations and ask for cooperation. There is no penalties levied against churches for not following recommendations during worship gatherings.

I have another week before I’m considered fully vaccinated.
