Going to the library can be dangerous

Post by Winton » Wed Mar 24, 2021 4:40 pm

As I was walking to the library, I stopped, waiting for the red light to change. I needed to cross a busy four lane road. While I waited, someone also stopped his vehicle, next to me. When the light changed, and I had the sign to walk, I stepped out and quickly stepped back. The vehicle next to me turned right without seeing me. It was a police vehicle.

Japanese people are taught to always look for pedestrians and cyclists when turning left (same as turning right in America). They actually do it, too. American's don't. Part of the difference is training, but I think that part is cultural. Japanese people tend to be rule-followers, while Americans obey the rules mostly when they have to.
There are many terrible attributes of the lowly cob. Not the least of them is that it makes you look like a doof.

There's a fine line between winning the lottery and buying the farm in these situations.

There's a guy at my church whose car got hit by an 18-wheeler several years ago. I think he was in his late 20's or early 30's at the time. Broke his hip, arm, etc. The company whose truck hit him paid all his medical bills and continues to pay him something like 50k a year every year on his birthday until he's 65.
So what value is attached to a post like this? - Tatanka

DL approached the librarian, who asked if she could help him.

"I'll have bacon cheeseburger, onion rings and a Coke," DL replied.

"Sir, this is a library;" she responded.

DL apologized and whispered: " I'll have a bacon cheeseburger, onion rings and a Coke."

The library is like the internet.... they know every thing about what you look at and read.

You live in Illinois. Them cops was ready to catch you thinking about tobacco or freedom or fishing flies or God.

They just got there a little too soon, is all.

You'd better be more careful next time.
