Post by DepartedLight » Sat May 25, 2013 9:47 am

How we looking? Time to see if Scott needs any cash to keep the timeouts coming. [/timeout snark]

But seriously on the account stuff.

The last time that Munkey mentioned financial concerns, he said that we had plenty of years in the bank from our last fund appeal to cover the web hosting.

However, the Taco Fund is probably running a bit low.

Unless we can have some assurance that said tacos will NOT be purchased from an establishment with "Bell" at the end of the name I don't think I could contribute to said fund. Or for that matter, the word "Del" at the start of the name (if you happen to live on the left coast, and no offense at all to our esteemed member by the same name).

Hosting is good (as I understand it...). but an upgrade to hosting services a couple of months back put us out of the running for new forum software.

Scott hasn't put forward a request (in either public or private) for funds, and there are some alternatives being considered, but the reality, IMO, is that the forum will continue to suffer if we continue to use the same software. A move to new software is greatly concerning.... lots of opportunity for a single mistake to cause irreparable damage.

That being said, in the opinion of most I've spoken to, it needs to be done. Limitations are money (not hosting a telethon here, just speaking truth - "donate" button is on the left.) and time. Making a wholesale forum software change is a solo job, and once it's started, the site is down until it's complete. Those with the ability to make the changes probably lack the time. None of the Admins are forum guys by trade, so you're cutting into family time to get it done.

Your frustrations are noted, and your patience is appreciated. Unless we can pull in a forum engineer/sugar daddy, it's going to be a bit longer.

It's there at the top of the forums - right next to the "Email CPS Moderators" link....

Haha, we can put that back up eventually.

Pepik graciously donated his time, and we did go with a free software package.

We have been chewing through our hosting funds, but haven't hit the bottom yet, though getting close, have about 2 more months of expenses banked.

Every two years in October we pay $190.80 (Due this Oct. 2014), and we pay an additional $15/month for the dedicated virtual machine we're currently hosted on (which we switched to once the site started gobbling up more memory).

Already done - also the RSS link is up too. FInd it at the top of the Forums under the board title next to "Email CPS Moderators".
