Wait is this PAD?

Post by rgcurrey » Tue Feb 06, 2018 6:02 pm

Having my Dad’s three pipes I just received MY first pipe and four different tobaccos on the second. Now it is the sixth and I am seriously thinking of getting another pipe and two new tins, but, I still haven’t even opened one of the tins from four days ago. I think I am in trouble.

Where is durangopipe to tell me this is all ok and I have nothing to worry about?

It's perfectly normal. You have nothing to worry about. It's part of figuring out what you like.

I've probably bought and sold a hundred pipes.

Clean speaks truth.

When you was a kid did you buy 2 crayons and see if that was OK? Poop no! If you was like me in the low rent section we got the single layer 8 color basic pack. But that sumbeach was NEW. Know what I’m saying.

Now most other kids at school has the basic working class kid 16 count. But the rich sumbeaches had that massive 64 box from hades!

So. What kind of man are you? Low rent 8 box is plenty fine for you? Or, are you gonna go 64 faster than other piper before in history?

Please note I am not a financial planner.

PAD is a myth. We can all stop anytime we want.

When someone asks you how many pipes you really need, the only suitable answer is "Just one more".

I've given away as many pipes as I currently own. (At least.) As for selling, if you got a few lying around that you haven't touched in a few years and you know you won't be reaching for any time soon, you'll eventually have a lightbulb moment that tells you selling those equals more money in your pocket to buy new pipes.

Bingo.

Also, I guess a lot of it for me was honing in on what I like in a pipe. I also enjoy examining the details of how pipes are made. In the absence of a local brick and mortar, I have to buy and sell off the internet to get my hands on them.

For example, at one point I was on a Dunhill patent pipe kick. Probably bought and sold maybe 10 different Dunhill patents just to see how they were made and how they performed. I can now confirm, in conjunction with a lot of other pipers, that pre-war patent Dunhills beat the pants off the new pipes in terms of smokability and even cut. The stain on the old Bruyeres is just deeper and more plumb colored. I like that. An old hand cut F/T (fishtail) bit is something to behold. The old shell patents - well, if you like leathery, craggy blasts then they're tops. Even the old "Cumberland" material used back then had finer "grain". And the patented innertube, meant to be changed out when the pipe got dirty, actually has the side affect of insuring a consistent airway all the way through the pipe. I would never know this first hand if I didn't have some form of PAD.

PAD & TAD...you will only find enablers here...we all have our stories to tell and most of them end with, "...and that's the last pipe/tin/bulk buy I am going to make for a while..." this is said while looking at Smoking Pipes, Pipes & Cigars or E-bay...

PAD & TAD, "...this is all ok and I have nothing to worry about" :rotfl:

Well I like custom camping gear. I have bought and sold knives made by individuals and small shops more than I should have (axes and packs too). The way it generally works for me there is that I will see a knife that I want and sell one I have to get it. I am not so much a collector but a picky user. The problem with pipes is I only have one to sell and will not sell it to get another so this needs an influx of new capital that is not presently available.

I didn't pull the trigger on the new to me pipe and two tins last night. Yet, it is still available so we will see what happens today and this week and if, by chance, some discretionary funds do become available I have a numbered list ready as to my picks from Smoking Pipes.

Well I just threw a bid up on ebay for a pipe, however, eventhough it ends in 45 minutes and I have the high bid I do not believe I will win it.

Snipe, my friend, snipe. At about 7 seconds enter an ungodly amount that Noone would ever beat then keep clicking the up your bid button. You'll win (assuming you have a good internet connection). Trust me.

I was driving home when the auction ended and was unable to add to my bid. Someone got a steal of a good deal on that pipe.

I used to live in a nice house, drive a shiny car, have a good job and a lovely wife.

Now, I sleep alone under a bridge in a cardboard box and spend my waking hours wandering the streets with a squeaky shopping cart full of Tinskys.
