It's the ugliest pipe contest.

Post by A_Morley » Fri Sep 21, 2007 5:28 pm

Post a picture of the ugliest pipe you can find.

The rules are that the pipe cannot be obviously damaged or overused. It must be a pipe that was simply ugly from the first day it was made. I'm not sure if this will actually be a real contest or what I will give the winner if there even is one.

Here's my entry.

It might have been carved by Eric Nording, but it is, nevertheless, an ugly, ugly pipe.

That is just a small sample of the twisted mind of Trever Talbert.

I met him once or twice. Heck of a nice guy. But, oh, those... uh... Halloween pipes...

In fairness, not all of his pipes look like something out of H.P. Lovecraft.

I saw a picture of an antique pipe on ebay a week or two ago that was made from a bull penis, in the best interest of the CPS community I'm not going to post a picture here to show you. You're just going to have to trust me when I say it was looong and 9 different kinds of ugly.
Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

While a much more conventional shape than those monstrosities above, this just looks bad and cheap to me -- like it's either made of a hunk of old fireplace ash (ready to crumble when touched), or something sprayed with that fake, aerosol Christmas snow.

That's a color photo of a black-and-white pipe.

Better get a barf bag, then. I'm not even going to post the image, just a link.

Lampton Worm, Talbert, 2001.

Just for contrast, here's what the man can do when he's not trying to nauseate everyone:

The material is called "morta," which is 4500-year-old fossilized French bog oak.

If Morley is the judge, then all you need to do to win is link a picture of your best Churchwarden and you are a shoe-in...

Oh, yeah. Gotta consider the judge!

I remember from a previous thread that he doesn't care much for horses either...

I for one don't think Trever's Halloween creations should be in here! There's nothing ugly about 'em... they're scary, not ugly. IMO. He must have removed pictures because I don't think you guys even posted the freakiest looking ones!!

Well then, I've decided that this will be a contest, though I have not decided how long I will allow it to go, nor what the winner will recieve.

In the interest of keeping things objective, my own tastes, however better than everybody elses they may be, will not be taken into account. Churchwardens, in and of themselves, will not be considered unless they are obviously ugly or mishapen churchwardens. Churchwardens are, after all, merely stupid looking, not ugly.

Horse shaped pipes are alarming and severely test my faith in mankind, but horses are not ugly. I just would rather not have them around.

So far, Ben is in the lead with this god-awful thing:

Yes, Ben's entry is -- so far -- easily the ugliest.

I wanted to take the time to point this out primarily in the hopes of someone noticing my shouting Morley avatar.
