Snow Day

Post by hugodrax » Fri Feb 01, 2019 11:54 am

Two days of polar vortex, then a 2 inch snow that overloaded the system. My girls might have utterly forgotten what school was like.

My wife is working from home. To stop full-contact UNO, I decided to take my three girls and the dog on a combined death march/ milk buying expedition.

Dog doesnt like walking on salt, so we went through the snow drifts to stop the one legged hopping of a 70 lb dog. Six blocks into it, my kindergartner has two epic green snots hanging out of her schnozz, so we stopped at the Anglican cathedral. I tried to wait outside, but no, had to leave the dog with the nine year old while I got tissues.

Middle daughter falls in the snow about 6 times for no apparent reason. Kicks snow into my eldest's boots "accidentally" several times.

Make it to the store. Send girls in to buy milk. Somehow, that included three bags of skittles.

About three quarters of a mile from home, dog in one hand, milk in the other, youngest one holding my coat pocket repeating "I'm coo-oold" like the needle was stuck in a groove the whole way home.

Everyone's fingers were burning, so hot chocolate and skittles time with a very dignified game of uno.

You know what? God's pretty good. I'm going to miss this.

Was particularly personally edifying.

I don’t think so. Moments of sheer giggling laughter are really rare. Occasionally, it just strikes me that these are the good times. Trust me, I spend a lot more time looking for and creating problems.
