Driving back from NYC trip with my daughter....

Post by Hovannes » Mon Jun 27, 2016 11:51 am

We flew into Long Beach late last night back from taking my daughter on her high school graduation trip to New York for her very first time in NYC. She was too tired to drive, so I drove, fortified with truck stop coffee. All went well until about 25 miles from home. Claire fell asleep, which was OK but then I must have fallen asleep, hit the median divider and bounced back across all three North bound lanes. I regained enough control over the Chevy Sonic to get it onto the side of the road, coming to rest in the high weeds.
It is a flat out miracle that neither of us got hurt and that the car didn't flip and was able to be driven into town. The Sonic's driver's side is completely crushed. Praise God we're OK!

The least the kids can do is yammer at dad to keep him awake.
Tell us about what you did in NYC. You have to have survived for a reason, right? So... deliver the goods. Give us a reconnaissance report.

We did the basic tourist stuff----museums, monuments, Central Park, a Broadway musical (Aladdin) and lots of shopping. As we were knee deep in the tall grass on the side of the highway looking over her wrecked car with a flashlight we kept saying to one another: "That was one heck of a fun trip."

I just spoke with the adjuster. There is a chance the Sonic will be totaled---we'll find out the decision tomorrow. If they do I hope they'll give us enough to pay off the note.

Sometimes you'll be surprised with how much the insurance company will value a total, when I got into my wreck the payout not only covered the note which I was worried it wouldn't also but gave me enough in addition for a down payment on another car. God is merciful.
