The Falcon Pipe, A Threaded Aluminum Bowl/ Stem Pipe

Post by Goose55 » Thu Feb 18, 2016 1:47 pm

A CPS member recently told me about the Falcon pipe, a threaded aluminum bowl/ stem pipe, which is supposed to smoke cooler and drier,.... especially for aromatic pipe tobacco. Briar bowls are interchangeable.

Has anyone else some experience with the Falcon?

1) Which of the Falcon Briar bowls have you found especially good?

2) Have you tried any of the Falcon Meersham (sorry spelling is wrong) bowls?

3) I have read that some folk make there own absorbent rings (for the bottom of the alum bowl) out of pipe cleaners. Have you tried this?

Here is the Falcon I just ordered and I'm interested to know any other experiences with similar designed Falcons......

I'm a big fan of the Falcon (and the Dr. Grabow Viking).

1) Which of the Falcon Briar bowls have you found especially good? In my opinion, the bowl is more of an aesthetic preference than a performance indicator. Some bowls smoke better than others, but I can't see where that is based on shape or finish. I have fine-tuned a couple of mediocre bowls and made them star performers.

2) Have you tried any of the Falcon Meersham (sorry spelling is wrong) bowls? Nope.

3) I have read that some folk make there own absorbent rings (for the bottom of the alum bowl) out of pipe cleaners. Have you tried this? Nope. I just remove the bowl and clean it out with a paper towel when needed.

Your link no workie. I'd be interested in seeing what you picked.

That was the "other" thread.

The link worked for me....

We should lock them both. I'm feeling offended.

Has anyone else some experience with the Falcon?

Yes! Loved them.

1) Which of the Falcon Briar bowls have you found especially good?

Look for the old ones. They have a ring around them and better briar. But you really don't need more than one. The system really works.

2) Have you tried any of the Falcon Meersham (sorry spelling is wrong) bowls?

I've had a Meer Schaumburg bowl. Meh

3) I have read that some folk make there own absorbent rings (for the bottom of the alum bowl) out of pipe cleaners. Have you tried this?

No need.

Here is the Falcon I just ordered and I'm interested to know any other experiences with similar designed Falcons......

1. All the chamber shapes are the same with exception of their larger bowls like the Istanbul, so bowl shape is purely aesthetic.

2. Yes. I love it.

3. I don't bother with the rings and have yet to even have a reason to consider using them.

4. You might also consider trying an H.Wiebe Radiator Pipe as well.

Nope not my wife, his, my great Aunt. She also had a garage sale after his death, I was living across the state, and she sold all his guns to a guy for $500. I was supposed to get his guns, 2 deer mounts and his CU Buffalo football memorabilia and his smoking stuff...he had a lighter collection that was huge....I got a Buffs banner...the rest of it all went at the garage sale or to the trash.

No worries...my wife will likely throw out my pipe stuff when I am on the other side of the grass....I have it set up this way to beat her to the punch. My son wants my lighters, no one wants the pipes...and my tobacco is getting donated to my pipe club.

I have one. A straight stem and billiard bowl. Nothing fancy. It is excellent. I use the Falcon rings.

I'm going to give a dissenting opinion. I don't like Falcons. I think they're ugly. They look like a bud pipe and have too many parts. I've only smoked a Grabow Viking...once...not a Falcon. It gurgled a lot. And did I mention it was ugly?

There. I said it.

I just now looked at the H.Wiebe Radiator Pipe and will investigate further. Thank you

First impression: WoW. What a huge, tall Briar bowl

I very much like your quote on what grace is, BTW

To me, it looks like the 1970s. Like modern, for the 1970s. Like what a NASA engineer or a Led Zeppelin management executive would smoke. In the 1970s.
