Best Meerschaum?

Post by Preacher Pipes » Fri Jun 16, 2017 1:22 pm

Ok. This may have been covered before, but I'm new. So, if this is a repeat blame Wayne... Do you guys know a good meerschaum maker who doesn't have clunky stems and that have drilled and opened airways? I'm trying to find a straight billiard (or similar) and am hesitant because of most of the stems on most of my meers. I will say that my Tekin has the best stem so far...

WAYNE< YOU SONOVA . . .

I have 3 meers. 2 are SMS. Both smooth, a poker & 1/4 bent rhodie. The other is the POY from here a few years back

The POY is far better.

I like the idea of meers. But, We need a better stem material there. Am I right? Huh? High five! dude. High five? dude.

I agree about the stems man.... It's so hard to find one with a decent stem...

I had a good Paykoc lattice that was left at ex's. I got a new Paykoc that wasn't nearly as good.

If money were no object, I would absolutely love to have one of Cannoy's beautiful meers:

Another option would be to find a suitable bowl with a modern mortise and have a good pipemaker craft up a stem for you,
nudge nudge, maybe Wayne? :D
He makes super high quality stuff, and his stemwork is amongst the best that I've ever experienced.

The meerschaums carved on the Isle of Mann from African meerschaum for Barling were always a favorite. If ever you find one, buy it forthwith.

Yeah Walt's are really nice. And that's funny about Wayne. I was just texting him about doing something like that....

I think Meerqueen's are modern tenon... My Tekin that I got from them has a modern tenon and not a screw in...
