When I was a kid there was a kid with the last name of Smeltzer in my Sunday School class.

I hope this helps.

Apparently he grew up to become a pipemaker.
Good to know he went to a Sunday School.

The real question is where did you get the pipe stand that looks so much like you if you were wearing a horrified facial expression?

It's a photo from a catalogue of a sculpture exhibit, not the actual sculpture.
The pipe is sitting on the picture.

So who sculpted your visage sans permission? We'll sue the hell outta them.

Also, that's a really odd thing to do.

As for the sculpture.
It could easily be me.

He's referenced on this page if you scroll down to "DRS," but it doesn't give a lot of info. He's also listed as one of the makers on this page, but they don't currently seem to have any of his pipes or any additional information.

All that to say, it looks like he might be a real pipe maker, but maybe hasn't hit the bigs yet.
Found a pic …

So, it appears his pipe is a self portrait.

I'm thinking a counter-suit saying that you caused the estate irreparable damage by presenting them in such an unflattering way. You could lose your Schmelzer.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

Here's another Schmelzer, the one that passed through Blue Room Briars previously.
Scott sent me the photo.

This looks to be a left-hander's pipe.
Why do you think that? If you're right handed then your right hand is doing something else. And so the pipe is for right handed people.
Which hand is holding the pipe, and which hand is holding the lighting utensil when you light the pipe?

I think that because:

I'm left handed.
I hold a pipe in my left hand.
I hold the lighter in my right hand when lighting a pipe.
My right hand is doing something else, or not, when not lighting the pipe.
I generalized from my own experience.

I'll rephrase the comment to make it more universally applicable: The pipe appears to be made to be held in the left hand.

Ahhh. Interesting. I always wondered what you lefties did. I'm right handed. I hold the pipe in my left hand and light it with my right. My right hand is for more important stuff like writing or using a tool eg a lighter. What else does your right hand do? Does handing you a pipe stop you from doing other things or do you switch hands? I would hope that you try to free your left hand.

I agree with the last stmt and it works for right handers.

Ah ha! There is a new frontier here for you. It's surprising but the smoking experience, and even the flavour, changes depending upon what we're doing. But it all depends upon freeing up your master hand eg the one that is required to write or use a tool, so that you can experience more of this.
