I broke one of my favorite pipes!

Post by Bloodhound » Tue Dec 12, 2017 1:49 pm

So in my history of smoking a pipe, I have broken 2 pipes, just 2. The first was my first Comoy, I was cleaning the stem and it broke at the button when I was too forceful with the inserted pipe cleaner. Haven't got it fixed yet. That was last year. No big deal. It was a pipe I liked, but certainly not one of my favorites. A bent billiard, and a new stem will actually maybe help the pipe.

Flash to this weekend.

It is a coincidence that this is also a Comoy. The real bummer is that this Comoy IS one of my favorites! This was my 2nd Comoy and the 5th pipe I ever bought. It is a big billiard and I am sick about this. I was reaching for the tobacco behind it on the shelf and knocked it off to hit the floor from a fall of about 4 feet. This pipe came to me in very nice condition and I have had it for almost 10 years.

Well the good news is letting the ist Comoy sit broken on the shelf has been an option...that is not an option for this one, so they will now both go to get repaired after the 1st of the year.

I know the feeling.
Truly sorry, BH.

But take heart, a good repair job will make it as good as new.

I bet there be a few folks on CPS that can replace tenons.

Thanks guys...I got to looking more closely at this and it looks like there is a crack in the stem near the button running towards the tenon on the bottom side of the stem. I will drag out the lighted magnifier and verify. I was thinking new stem, until you folks suggested a repair. Thanks for the kind words and ideas and PM.

I've also had pretty decent luck with a tap screw and strong glue.

So did you ever get this pipe fixed?

A repair like this isn't hard to do. There are lots of qualified guys who could do it for you. Worst case scenario, you replace the whole stem, but it doesn't look like that's necessary.

That's a nice pipe--too nice not to fix it.

Take heart, that's a fairly simple fix.
