Pipe bag/pouch opinions

Post by kaydens » Wed Mar 07, 2018 3:59 pm

Do you use a dedicated pipe bag/pouch while out and about with your pipes?
Which is your favorite (or one you would like to own) and why?
What do you think is missing and/or can be improved on the conventional pipe bags?

I always like to take 3 or 4 tobaccos and a couple of pipes so I have passed on the typical pipe bag/pouch/roll and I use a small military tool bag. Mine is black and it has pockets for my lighter, tin of fluid and plenty of space for my pipes and tobaccos. I have a leather single pipe & tobacco pouch, but it gets very limited use. I mostly keep it because I bought it early in my pipe smoking hobby so I have had it for 25+ years.

I use a tobacco pouch. I love it because it gives a place to lay out the tobacco to fill up the bowl instead of getting tobacco everywhere as I try to fill up the bowl. I'd like a combo pouch that holds two pipes, tobacco, lighter, tamper and pipe cleaners.

Moisture barriers for the baccy. I tend to go the route of ziplocks for the amount of times I've been disappointed with desiccated 'baccy days after removing them from their container(s) at home while on the road.

I tend to use this for the footprint and ability to (mostly) prevent undesired clattering between multiple pipes:

Yes, I have a nylon pouch made by Mountain Ridge Gear that I took from my pack to hold pipe stuff. Image

However, someday, I would like to get a waxed canvas roll like this one by Fieldworkco on Etsy. It looks like a great design.

Which one is that? I didn't see it on pipes and cigars.

I knew about what I wanted.
I searched the net and found these: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/397513104586444259/

I then made one that does about what I want it to:

This is a prototype that I sewed.
The advantage to this one is that it will fit into a sportcoat pocket.

Found it through a Yahoo! image search for "Viking Pipe Pouch". No idea if it's actually sold anymore.

Mine is leather and made by COMOY's. It is very similar to this one and is over 20 years old. Holds 4 pipes in the same flipped up and down arrangement so the pipes don't knock together. I really like it and it has always been nearby for many years.

I have a box full of different pouches, bags, and rolls. The JMG has quickly moved to the top of the list. It has just the right feel, function, and looks for my needs.

I’ve got a Pelican Case I use for trips. Has padding and fits 2 pipes and a lighter.

I have a Jobey two pipe pouch that I use for everyday use. I'm not in love with it but it does the job okay. I typically only carry one pipe in it as I pick one pipe and smoke it all day. My main issue with most pipe bags/pouches is that they are too bulky.

Me too. I just used my new JMG for the first time on a recent trip, and it held two pipes and packed very well.

I got a pouch several years ago because I walked into a cheap cigarette store on a whim and found tucked in a corner a great bag. holds two pipes, lined section for baccy, and a zippered compartment for lighters, tamps, etc. Just keep your eyes out and you'll find one you like that works for you.
