Did it always do this or just start? I have a Savinelli that leaks only when it is subjected to minus zero temps. I was walking a bridge across the Cedar River in northern Iowa one February while smoking that pipe. It was -26 F. The pipe started leaking around a fill in the bowl. It still smokes great and doesn't leak unless I smoke it outside when its below zero.

It sounds like the pipe may leak.

Hope this helps.

I would just switch to a slightly thicker and better smelling bubbles solution. I know Mr. Bubble is always a good standard choice but really the Gymboree Bubbles are top notch.

My bubble solution used last night was fairly thick - it's called Star of the East flake ;)

Anyway...

I looked and I can't find any crack in the mortise/shank. If there is one then it's very small and very well concealed by the rusticated finish. I'm just going to keep on smoking it and wipe the moisture off as needed. I enjoy this pipe quit a bit, and I'm not highly distressed about the moisture. I was mainly asking about the issue as a matter of curiosity.

Thank you, FredS and Slowtoke.

The whole sticky thing was creeping me out.

You have my personal promise that if you keep smoking it the floodgates will close. I'd risk a tin of tobacco on it.

You can trust me. Just ask anyone here. Except DL. And CodeMonkey.

This may not matter but I wonder if the morta didnt get glued correctly. Morta is trcky, I hear. I bet JMG could fix it for a few $$.

I may have to ask him, if it just needs a specific glue, that’s easy enough, it actually came unglued at one point and I superglued it, tried my best to use a decent amount of superglue to seal it up... guess it was not enough.

I had a pipe once that leaked so bad I threw it out. It was a poorly excecuted Peterson system knock off. The pipe wasn't exactly cheap but not expensive either. It had nice lines but moisture just ran down the outside of the bowl. I drilled out the "reservoir" and that helped some but not enough.
