Restricted Draw In A Savinelli Stem

Post by Goose55 » Wed May 15, 2019 12:19 pm

I have this Savinelli Estella estate pipe and the orifice in the stem button is a very tiny hole (in pic looks like a yellow sphere) which severely restricts the draw. Has anyone here encountered this issue before and if so what did you do about it?

I don't have any Savenellis so I don't know if this is a common problem with that brand or that particular line. If it's not, the stem was likely replaced somewhere along the line. The "fix" is to straighten the stem, drill a tapered airway, file the slot to a funnel shape, polish the airway, rebend the stem, then polish the whole pipe. The final buff is because the stem may get 'dull' during the multiple heats.

I can do that if you'd like.

I ruined a stem on a Peterson Irish Seconds Pipe.

I didnt heat it enough after drilling the opening and when bending it back.. it cracked..

So sad, I really liked that pipe.

You're prob looking at a replacement stem since they have the most open draw of any pipe I've smoked. I have 5 or 6.

That was my thought as well.

Yes, most Sav Estellas I've seen have an "E" logo on the stem. This one does not. So, you're right Fainn, and DP, it's most likely a replacement stem.
