Stanwell Pipes

Post by DaveAF » Thu Apr 22, 2004 7:16 pm

I'm looking at adding to my rotation. Looking around a lot of on-line places carry Stanwells in my price range. Has anyone owned one of their pipes/what do you think of it?

I don't own any of their pipes right now, but I'm seriously considering them for my next purchase. They have an excellent reputation for consistently making good pipes, at reasonable prices. They're one of the few machine-made pipes with such a good rep. From what I've read, you can't go wrong with Stanwell.

I got a Stanwell for $20 about a year ago from Iwan Ries' "super specials" page. I love it.

I have several and am actually in the market for a another 1 or 2. My favorite shape Stanwell is #83.

The biggest reason I like my Stanwells is that I've never had an issue running a pipe cleaner through. It's completely effortless. I had to modify my Peterson's with a dremel in order to get the pipe cleaner through. Not on my Stanwells.

Blessings,
Daniel

Hey DaveAF,
I currently have four regular and one churchwarden made by Stanwell. I highly recommend them. I also have several Savinelli's and one Peterson (the Peterson is a terrible pipe) but, they don't compare to the quality of the Stanwell. Stanwell seems to use better briar and are made very well; on all of the one's I have, the mortise/ tenon junction is perfect (in-line with no gap), the bowl/ air hole junction is well placed (bottom of the bowl), the finish is fantastic, and the general shape and balance of the pipe is great. I have two from the "Legend" line, one from the "Majestic" line, one from the "Golden Danish" line, and the churchwarden is a "Lord" style.
I've never heard of someone being dissappointed with a Stanwell pipe.
Hope this helps.

The Stanwell I have is one of my favorites. I would definately recommend them based on the one I have.
It's always the quiet ones.....isn't it?

I have several Stanwells, also. I have noticed that my Virginia's fare better in taste than my Dunhill M.M. 965, but that could be me, the way I smoke, etc.

I urge you to try one, because I've never had problems with mine, and they're dependable and a lot of fun for the money.

Cannot go wrong with Stanwell. Half my rotation must be a Stanwell.
