What's the best place to buy cigars online?

Post by tuttle » Tue Oct 16, 2012 3:48 pm

I don't usually buy em by the box. Normally I grab a stick or two at the local b&m and if ever I get a box it is a gift. But our somewhat annual 'herf' is coming up and I'm really low. So...best place for box purchases? Prices? Quality? (heck, freebies?)

cigarbid.com

When I was smoking cigars, I got most of my cigars from here. Some really good deals. I usually went for the 5 packs.

www.cigarbid.com. Yeah, I'd have to agree with cigarbid.com being the best--the best for price, that is. Their quality can be suspect sometimes. I just got a shipment today and one of the cigars had a gash, lengthwise, about five inches long, from label to foot. Apparently by a boxcutter at cigarbid.com (not by me). No big deal. It was a cheap stick. lol. There are even some pretty good deals on cigarbid.com Quickbuys.

www.cigarsinternational.com. This site is pretty good too. It's related to cigarbid.com. The prices are slightly higher, but you don't need to wait around a day or so for bidding to end. I suspect cigarsinternational.com unloads its excess inventory on cigarbid.com.

www.jrcigars.com. I've ordered here too. Prices not as good. But they have cigars you can't get on any of the above. Like Bolivars, for example.

www.cigarauctioneer.com. I've never ordered from these guys. But I've heard it's a good place. Looks like they have decent prices, and some pretty good sticks.

Apparently Thompson has a cigar club, where they'll send 5 nice ones each month for $30. I'm intrigued and think I know what my next splurge will be.

Holts has some good deals from time to time.

CigarsInternational.com and Cigarbid.com are the same company. The trick is to look at the main site before placing a bid on the auction site. Some guys get bid happy and will pay more than the asking price if they are not careful.

Particularly look for their J.R. Alternatives which is their version of famous brands and shapes. They are hands down the best value on earth for really fine cigars. Also, in many cases, I have found them to actually be BETTER than the name brand they immitate.

And you can believe it. JR's the best!

Wherever is having a sale.

If no one is having a sale, JR's is the place to go.

I used to use Cigarplace and Atlantic Cigar, both discount outlets. Cigarplace I believe has been sold, and since then their prices have gone up. Now I use the auction sites. Yes, you can spend foolishly there but if you go there knowing what you want and only bid if you can get what you want, you can get some awesome deals. Famous' sales are very good, and if you combine a sale with an item on sale, you can get fantastic prices.

Just went on a cigarbid bender. Scored on some five packs.

May my wife forgive me once she finds out.

I like Pipes and Cigars, mostly because they have a much better selection of pipe tobacco and my orders tend be be weighted more towards pipe tobacco. I've compared prices and Thompson, JR & P&C are usually within a few cents of one another on the same items. Unless you catch what you want on sale at one place.

I scored some great holiday deals at holts.com. Always had great service from them and they can be very competitive price wise.
