Help Me Replace some McClelland Brands

Post by Steve S » Sun Mar 04, 2018 10:28 pm

So with McClelland out of business, a couple tobaccos I've especially enjoyed are no longer available. Among my favorites were Frog Morton's Cellar and Balkan Blue. Can you folks recommend anything comparable from another supplier?

Honestly, I don't think there are any blends that are similar to McClelland blends. They were pretty unique in flavor. Someone mentioned in another thread that maybe some of the other brands will come out with blends that mimic some of the more popular McClelland blends. I sure hope so; especially the Frog Morton series. I didn't smoke them much because I mostly smoke Va's but it's a damn shame to lose them for sure.

Hearth & Home Blackhouse is not a replacement for Balkan Blue, but it is very good.

When Rusty (who was a great McClelland fan) was with us he steered me to this Pease "Fog City Series" of Virginia blends and I tried three of them and liked them very much.....

Thanks, folks. I don't expect an exact match, though that would be lovely. I do hope that some other manufacturers take it upon themselves to replicate some of McClelland's unique blends. But until such a time, I'm interested in anything that's even vaguely similar.

I don't smoke much, so if I end up with a tin of something I only kinda-sorta like, well, it will take me a very long time to go through it. That, and I don't have the money to go out and try twenty different blends to see what I like all over again. So any and all recommendations are welcome.

The Country Squire has a house blend called Hunting Creek which, on Country Squire Radio (their podcast) was said to be quite similar to FMC. https://www.thecountrysquireonline.com/ ... -aromatic/

Also, their Shepherd's Pie blend was compared to FM original: https://www.thecountrysquireonline.com/ ... -oriental/

Admittedly, I've not smoked anything from The Country Squire yet.
I tend to find the doctrinal books often more helpful in devotion than the devotional books.... I believe that many who find that "nothing happens" when they sit down, or kneel down, to a book of devotion, would find that the heart sings unbidden while they are working their way through a rough bit of theology with a pipe in their teeth and a pencil in their hand.
