Post by Walkman » Sun Mar 08, 2009 3:17 pm

What are your top five favorite blends?

Mine are:

Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe,
Samuel Gawith's Squadron Leader,
Dunhill's London Mixture,
McClelland's Frog Morton on the Town, and
Orlik's Golden Sliced.

I've only tried ten to twenty blends, but nevertheless:

McClelland Blackwoods Flake (favorite)
SG Full Virginia Flake
McClelland Christmas Cheer 2008
Smoky Mountain Delight (locally mixed PS B&B and Black Cav)
English #2 (locally mixed PS something or other)

I look forward to trying Bosun Cut Plug and 1792 soon, though.

It's worth checking out what this is. PS may be Peter Stokkebye. Stokkebye pipe tobaccos are one of the great underrated brands. They're sold all over the world as bulk - often re-branded by local tobacconists, and even passed off as though they were a local blender's creation.

I've sometimes thought if Peter Stokkebye had the tin art of Cornell & Diehl, or the blend naming and packaging of McClelland or Samuel Gawith, then we'd talk much more about Peter Stokkebye.

It's Peter Stokkebye, but I'm not sure which of their English blends it is. I remember hearing Proper English, but I don't know it that was the blend I ended up purchasing. It's good!
