TEXAS in the News

The part of the church where the silliest things happen. Conversations that sound like they belong in the youth room will be moved here.

I think I may need to focus my church search to Texas.

Texas could start allowing alcohol sales at gun shows provided they don't allow live ammunition or let buyers take possession of their weapons at the events.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission announced the proposal Friday. It will hold a 30-day public comment period before any change is made.

The proposal also would require that firearms being shown for sale be disabled and not readily convertible for use.

Under current rules, if a gun show is held at a venue licensed to sell alcohol, drinks sales and consumption are suspended during the time it takes to set up, conduct and dismantle the gun show.
It sounded better when the voices in my head were saying it.

Texas Residents Attempt To Block Plan For Muslim Cemetery
DALLAS (AP) — Muslims say they're looking for a place to bury their dead. Locals say it's a plot to gain a foothold in their small rural Texas town.

A proposal to bring a Muslim cemetery to Farmersville has stoked fears among residents who are vehemently trying to convince community leaders to block the project. The sentiment reflects an anti-Muslim distrust that has been brewing over the last year in parts of Texas, most notably 25 miles away in Garland — the scene of a deadly May shooting outside a cartoon contest lampooning the Prophet Muhammad.

"The concern for us is the radical element of Islam," David J. Meeks, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, told The Dallas Morning News. He said he thinks the cemetery would be the first step toward a broader Muslim expansion in town.

"How can we stop a mosque or madrassa training center from going in there?" he asked, referring to a type of Islamic school.

The issue is flaring up as Farmersville leaders consider a 35-acre development request from the Islamic Association of Collin County, which faces a shortage of space to bury members of its faith. Although the area already has a Buddhist center and Mormon church, residents showed up in force at a recent town meeting to oppose allowing a Muslim cemetery, which would include an open-air pavilion and small retail component that would run along a busy highway through town. …

I am glad that the fundamentalists love our Bible. We would be happy to teach them how to understand it, if any are interested.
As one commenter, Douglas Page wrote on the Facebook post: “I hate to tell you this, but some of us have studied history enough to know that the Catholic Church is not a Christian church. For over 1000 years the Catholic was dedicated to imprisoning, torturing, and burning Christians. and for just as long conquered and converted by the sword. To many of us, to call the Catholic church Christian is to bloody the name of Christ.”
Mr. Page wants to assert that the collective 40,000 versions of Protestant faith are so different from the Apostolic Church that one side is not even "Christian".... That argument could get shaky, pretty quick.

As to the matter of "imprisoning, torturing, and burning Christians".... I think he needs to check his history again. But he's a Texan, right?
