Do You Wear or Carry a Watch?

Do you wear a wrist watch?

Found this watch in Daddy's chest of drawers. He wore it throughout my childhood. Bulova self winding with 1963 date code. Number on the case is H37859. Runs with second hand sweeping, but other hands don't move. Ideas for repair, other than my local jeweler?
Image
Nice.

Do you want to keep all the patina? After you get the insides working, I would see if it could simply be cleaned and maybe polish out the crystal so it is kept as original as possible. Polishing the case can round out some of the crisp edges, like we see on the edges of so many estate pipes. Do you remember what kind of strap your father wore it on?

I would like to have it cleaned up,but wouldn't want it to look new.
He always wore stretch bands, like Twist-o-Flex.

Lots of places willing to work on old Bulova watches...I bet Jim's suggestion will get you started. Old Bulova watches are a treasure and this one being your dad's...well it is well worth it to have it up and running. Good luck with it

I was able to read the full article earlier, but it's now moved behind the pay wall. Thankfully, there is enough still visible to the common folk to allow us to snicker at people who value form over function:

Why Men Are Wearing Watches That Don’t Tell Time
What’s the point of wearing a watch when you’ve got a phone glued to your palm? For some, it’s all in the looks.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

I have a G-Shock that I bought when I was a Rookie Patrol Deputy...still have it and it is on its 4th band and just got its 3rd battery...That was 28 years ago...not bad for a $42 investment. That watch could tell some stories. 3 of the bands were broken in struggles with suspects...so the department paid for a new band every time but this last one.

Put up a pic sometime. I'll try and get a pic of a couple of G-shocks from the 80's

My Timex Expedition conked out the other day so I set it on the counter and left it, figuring the battery was dead. I'm going camping this weekend and will need a watch to meet up with my brother at a set time (no cell coverage up there) so I took another look at the watch this morning and the stem is gone. I have another, older, Expdeidtion somewhere but I can't lay my hands on it at the moment so I guess it's time to buy a new one.

I picked up a GD 350 recently. Om the right is a vintage 1289 from the early 90's, I think. It needs a band and a battery replacement.

I have 2 Casio watches, the G-Shock and a Waveceptor that looks like and is often mistaken for a Rolex dive watch, I have had it for almost 15 years. I have had great luck with Casio!

I have a fossil, with a leather band, I wear it sometimes... it was a groomsman gift from a friend whose wedding I was in. I like it, but watches aren’t comfortable on my wrist for everyday wear, I dunno.

I bought it for $41 at Wal-Fart. I like the light-up dial.
Ok, so I had one of these, but I wore it too low on my wrist and the light always came on and killed the battery, so after like 4 batteries in 6 or 7 months I stopped wearing it.

That’s a good looking watch.
I wore an Expedition for fishing for years.

Being left-handed and wearing the watch on my right wrist I never had to deal with that particular problem.
