Mrs. Del is watching a Hallmark Christmas movie at this moment.... and most evenings, since the Autumnal Equinox. :(
My wife watches those stupid Hallmark movies too...what's the deal with that? It's like crack for women.

rgcurrey wrote:I'm sorry guys but I like the perfect little towns where everything works out in the end and everyone is happy that Santa arrives. So yes, I watched a new Hallmark movie this past Sunday, there, I admitted it.
They're so predictable and formulaic that if you've seen one you've seen them all. I watched one one year with my wife and when I started predicting exactly what was going to happen after the first 5 minutes I was banned from watching them with her forever.
Well, there's this guy and this girl. And they are going to fall in love. But there's this other person. And there's a place that needs rescuing.... maybe an old country hotel, or a cupcake shop. Anyhow, they all work together and everything is fine.... until one of them sees the other one hugging the third person, and thinks that there's no hope for their relationship. But it all gets sorted out, and the place gets rescued, and the couple enjoy their first kiss, and you just know that they are all going to live happily ever after. It's so romantic!
No wonder you guys hate Christmas. My wife doesn't watch any of that crap.
The Christmas stories start in late September. We've barely had time to recover from Hallmark's binge of holiday romance during "Christmas in July."

This thread. A light snow. Ice cold cream soda.

I can't deny that it's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.

We put up our Christmas tree last night. I don't usually put it up this early but I felt obligated to let the GRich know that I am serious. I sent him a video of the kids gleefully decorating the tree with visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads. He of course sent a video back from his cold dark house mocking us with a Scrooge-like mentality.

Well done! We've decorated the inside of the house, a few bushes outside. Still have the fake tree to put up - waiting for 1-dot to get home from school. Then the fresh-cut tree will be soon after.

So far we've watched Die Hard, Elf, and Hallmark movies. Next up Christmas with the Kranks and White Christmas.

The corporate office Mgr. sent out an email to encourage employees to donate or lend unused and unwanted Christmas decor. Guess what he want's to do with it? Yep. Everyone is going to decorate the corporate office with their old Christmas stuff. I think that rocks.

He wants to wait until the end of November, though.

Brothers, you've been duped by corporate America! Artificial trees for an artificial celebration! You run after the world in their mad rush to capitalize upon your nostalgia and greed. Their relentless assault beats upon your weakened conscious as they place their candy canes next to the discounted Halloween costumes with nary a Thanksgiving nick-nack in between. They are like the nine who left Jesus, never once thinking of pausing for a moment in order to properly give thanks.

Premature celebration (like other premature responses) never fully satisfy. Weakness is bound to overcome. If you would but wait and be patient for the appointed time your joy will be complete and you will find strength to celebrate all the more! For those "that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

I plead, brethren, don't follow after the world and her enticing call of consumeristic celebration: "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." Rather, you should be "Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Don't become entangled in the corporate snares, but wait upon the LORD, abounding therein with thanksgiving, and when the fullness of time has come, we shall celebrate when "God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God."

Don't be slaves to American Corporate Interests, but live as adopted sons! Don't be ensnared in a Consumer Christmas that has "a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof". I encourage you brothers, repent and turn back as the one faithful leper who fell down on his face at the feet of his Savior, giving him thanks.

There is no premature celebration here. An overflow of the year before. And when the morning comes and the day is over there will be no downgrade from a climax followed by a dull season but rather a compounding joy that our Savior has come. Don't confuse our joy with a consumerist fever. I have yet to spend a dime.

We were at the cabin this past weekend and it started snowing and my wife said she wanted to watch a Christmas movie while it snowed and just get in the holiday mood. I reminded her of the RULE, "No Christmas movies until the day after Thanksgiving"...Sometimes a man just have to put his foot down...So I went into the other room and tied flies and she watched "Elf".

But make sure you buy Halloween costumes and eat a ton of mass-produced chocolate substances because that’s what Jesus wants.

I've been watching Christmas movies since November 1 because there aren't really any Thanksgiving movies.

If you don’t observe Advent, can you really appreciate the celebration of Christmas?
