North Texas is having the worst chigger outbreak in 30 years.

The Texas family forewarned me of this yesterday. Apparently my SIL lives in a place the chiggers find particualry homey this season. It’s next to a big field and a small river runs through it. I remember getting infested by those long ago when I lived back east. I also remember sand fleas back there. At least North Texas doesn’t get those do they?

This morning, I was texting with a buddy who recently moved to Tejas and he's complaining about the fire ants and how he's been chasing the colonies around his yard.

I miss California frequently. Don't get me wrong, it's nice here in Prosper. The people are exceptional and there's some neat things to see, but I miss the beach terribly. Just saying.

So, let me know when you're headed down this way. It's in no way similar to CA beaches, but the trout and redfish bite has been great lately.

Well that's a right nice offer. Yeah, I need to find a place to fish, and without a boat for now. I met a kid, about 12 years old at an urban park pond the other day fishing his heart out. I could tell he fished there a lot and while talking with him he was catching small half pound bass. Then he proceeded to tell me of the five pound bass he caught there, and eight pound one he caught at the little pond over the hill. I believed him, he was that sort of kid. I never even asked the other folks fishing there about their experience, this kid was the local expert on those city ponds.

I just had one of the best chorizo breakfast tacos I've ever had the pleasure to gnaw on. It was at Cousins BBQ in the Dallas airport.

Actually, I'm having a ball. I'm living in the burbs, right on the edge. I have Texas Longhorns for neighbors. The lakes nearby have a lot of good potential for fishing and boating. Dallas has all the city stuff I need. My son is at sports camp having fun. I have some connections here. The local Catholic Church is nice and busy too. The weather, as long as it's in the 90s feels fine now.

I also have a CPS member just 20 minutes down the road to see again too soon. I met him before. We need to go fishing. Life is good, better than I deserve. I'm an American, fortunate and thankful as can be. :)

Sir Elton didn't feel much love from Texas.
