Re: Best BBQ!!
I regularly smoke pork loin, ribs, chicken, turkey, jalapenos poppers, and various peppers but the most requested around my house is sausages. Every time I fire up the smoker, I am smoking sausage no matter what else I am smoking.

It's rare that I smoke without throwing on a few links, too. Nearly universal appeal.

Yes, but the family likes the German jalapeno from Klemke's and some we get from Sprout's as well.Jester wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 9:56 amDo you make your own sausage?

In general, DIY smoking is better than BBQ from any joint, IMO, simply because you can focus on a much smaller amount of product. Plus, you can focus on what you (and your group) enjoys most.dasmokeryaget wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 10:49 amFar be it from me to break my arm, but I have smoked pork ribs, beef ribs and brisket in MO, MI, TX, GA, IL, KS, AR, KY, TN and AL.

Re: Best BBQ!!
Smoking a turkey on a grill is still a smoked turkey. No one who comes from the south ever thinks about smoked turkey when they think about BBQ. If a friend invites me over and says we're having BBQ and then brings out smoked turkey, I call that man a liar.
This doesn't mean that BBQ restaurants don't serve smoked turkey nor are BBQ techniques used on turkey, but it shall never be BBQ.

What about brisket? What about beef ribs? In some parts, BBQ is pork only.ryland wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 12:35 pmSmoking a turkey on a grill is still a smoked turkey. In my close to 40 years of eating BBQ I've never known one person in the south to refer to smoked turkey as BBQ. It's always smoked turkey. This is my hill to die on.

Re: Best BBQ!!
Hmm.. well, it is considered BBQ in Texas. I never thought about it that way until I moved here. Mrs. UB judges BBQ joints by their smoked turkey and their sausage. I judge them by their slice brisket.ryland wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 1:15 pmBrisket and Ribs count because I ain't messing with Texas!UncleBob wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 1:02 pmWhat about brisket? Judging a restaurant on what they serve is extremely fair, no matter what it is. Smoked turkey can be great.UncleBob wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 1:20 pmHmm.. well, it is considered BBQ in Texas.
