World's Greatest Thinker Showdown

The part of the church where the silliest things happen. Conversations that sound like they belong in the youth room will be moved here.

There could be different brackets for philosophers, religious thinkers, CPSers, etc. The winners of these categories could then go against each other for a Greatest Thinker of All Time award.

I once heard that Plotinus, Plato's apprentice, is actually the world's greatest thinker.

(But what do I know...)

There's probably no real accurate way to rank the world's greatest thinkers right now, so ultimately any discussion on it will end up being something like "sports fandom", or arguing over whether or not Darth Vader can kill Captain Picard.

In theory, I think there would be an objective way of measuring it, but as of right now, none has been devised.

Supposedly, some thinkers like Plotinus, were so far ahead of their time, though, that they could have solved many of the world's problems, even within the context of being born into ancient times without any access to modern information or technologies, which even many of the most advanced thinkers of today are still still struggling with.

(Something maybe akin, to someone in Ancient Greece with B.C. era technology managing to invent a functional "dial-up" internet, something which was only surpassed millienia later, in an era of vastly superior economic abundance and technological advancement).

For that reason I decided to edit the post and add a few more.
Of course there’s no objective way to make this judgment. I doubt there’d be agreement regarding the criteria, let alone the final vote.

The brackets will be for fun.

I also nominate Kant. Probably one of the more useful philosophers the world has ever seen. Of course, that might sound inherently unKantion though.

He was just like me. When I attempted to educate the rubes in various philosophy classes of this fact; I was met with almost violent opposition. How dare me push today's ritalin baby meds onto Kant!

No. I'm as nuts as he was. Look at his behaviour. He just has a really fine way of rationalizing it to the reading public.

Oh how I was hated by the students.
