I'll add C.S. Lewis into the mix.

By my count that makes 27 nominations so far. Get your nominations in soon!

You are throwing C.S. Lewis into the ring before G.K. Chesterton gets a mention?

I'm pretty sure how Lewis & Chesterton might feel about challenging themselves against Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, and Aquinas. Grateful to stand on the shoulders of giants, they would humbly admit that they are "the greatest thinker."

You mean Goose, of course. I know you say "Chesterton" or "Lewis," but we all know these are merely code words for Goose.

Standing on the shoulders of giants is for the mediocre. Truly great men sit in the desert sun and puzzle it all out on their own with only the most rudimentary Google skills to help them.

I find the brackets scandalous. Its Goose.

Nope.

Chesterton is a great writer, a great saint even. And he is a "complete thinker" -- contrasted with the narrow thoughts that are the mark our century. (e.g., "mere Christianity" v. the fullness of Christianity)

But Chesterton didn't contribute much in the way of new thought -- i.e., building our culture.

He spent his creative energy fighting the deconstruction of Western culture. There is nothing novel in stating that the family is more important than the State, or that our Neighbor is more important than any politician, or that the Christ has given us the best Way and no one has improved upon it. Those weren't even "bold ideas," a lifetime ago. It was common sense.

I'm a little surprised. The "contest" is for greatest thinkers, not greatest innovators or originators. It's like saying someone shouldn't be considered a great swordsman if he didn't develop a new kind of sword or fighting technique. The great swordfighters use and combine the greatest swords and techniques better than other fighters. Chesterton's quick wit and his ability to adequately convey 'common sense' with bite or force or with just a touch, and the way he was able to influence other great thinkers is surely a mark of a great thinker.

I guess I'll nominate him.

I support the nomination of Chesterton, and would also recommend to consider Hans Urs von Balthasar. Although the name may sound exotic to you, the guy not only knew how to think, but, unlike me, also knew how to explain his thoughts in beautiful prose.
