Replacing a wax ring on a toilet

Replacing a wax ring on a toilet

Post by Winton » Thu Sep 12, 2019 4:28 pm

A couple weeks ago, I had to do this loathsome job. My normal process is to buy two at the hardware store, so I can skip the trip to the hardware store later.

Today, I was cleaning out our utility room. Now I have FOUR extra wax rings. What are the odds that I will forget where they are, the next time a toilet has this problem?

Discard the old wax rings. You'll just forget about them anyway.

Use the space to hoard more pipe tobacco. Then forget about the tobacco.

You son will appreciate finding the tobacco much more than he wants to find old wax rings.

I too say discard or, donate.

Those wax rings don't age well. And trying to keep the wax in shape is like herding kittens.

I've installed several toilets. I've always liked the new wax seal part.

Double them up (2 rings per toilet install). All but guarantees you won't have leaking issues.
