Are you sure it's not a mural of Putin?

Lol!

I would be happier it were. I confess, I actually really like Putin. I don’t always agree with him, I’m also a child of the United Stares after all, but I usually do agree with him and approve of his logic. He’s twice the leader of any American Presidential Candidate.

I like Greta.
I neither like nor dislike Greta. She is a young woman who was permitted to allow her idealism to take over her life and the lives of others around her. Her parents allowed her to skip school and change the family menu. The adults in her life seemed to need her to raise them in their indolence and lack of fortitude. She has been encouraged to continue in her unbalanced view probably because those around her don’t know better themselves.

On one hand we have the need to be good stewards of our environment, on the other, we need jobs and the means to create energy to fuel jobs and the economy. Greta is half right IMHO. She’s also half wrong. Like so many in our present society of extremism, the various activists are too busy condemning huge portions of society. And in Greta’s case, she has the time to sail around the world preaching her idea of utopia while people in the third world are trying desperately to eat and drink as they walk with heavy burdens.
What he said.
^This. A million times. This.^

Young people have always been rightly concerned with the world they'll inherit. And young people are always more idealistic than their cynical parents. What's changed is that the adults are taking this girl seriously. They've set aside many of the real-life lessons they've learned (about socialism, dictatorships, starving people, war, and violence), and are buying in to this girls naiveté.

The other day I saw a 7ish child mildly acting out. Her mother said, in a pouty voice "You're really making me feel bad right now." Seriously, this happened. The mother gave over her intelligence and feelings to the whims of the child.

Ferguson figured it out.

I feel sorry for her. She's being exploited.

Agreed. I fear for her future happiness.

I see why people find her inspirational.

I also see why people find her to be a hilarious meme.

In the end, she's just a kid, and as that great sage said...

Everyone here knows that she is (at least, TTBOMK) an autist, right?

I think so. And, I hate to say it, that plays into her unusual stare.

Asperger, I think. That helps one understand her, but not all those who put so much stock in her. Greta is free to - perhaps, even wired to - think and speak with bluntness about how everything affects her, but the world doesn't revolve around Greta.

Greta strikes me as being a tragic figure.
Of course we need to be good stewards, but
radicals have found in her a sacrificial persona for a socialistic environment movement.
I find it terribly sad to see a young girl being used as a poster child for nihilism.
^^ What he said.

I feel sad for this young woman, like I feel sad whenever I hear about a victim of child sexual abuse.

So much has been stolen from her. It will scar her life forever.

I’m not sure how you two have connected those dots to that degree. The passionate fight against climate change isn’t a nihilist cause. Is there something else that she says and does that justifies the charge of nihilism?

Also, I don’t believe adults are culpable for her initial enthusiasm. As I understand it, she started this on her own, perhaps permitted to take things arguably too far, although, if she were fighting for a pro-life cause to this degree, we might find more support for her around here. Of course, with the pro-life cause, it’s much more objectively black and white; there’s no tension between people’s livelihood and the environment as there is with climate change politics.

I say this with reverence -- We have to give the young girl credit:

She is the only one who has figured out how to reverse-troll Donald Trump.

I have not consciously equated climate alarmism with nihilism, but I think you are on to something. I will give it some thought.

With the pro-life movement -- real lives are being lost, and we can count them. Thousands, every day. We can engage the culture with facts and truth.

The Climate Change Alarmism is a boogey-man. It exists to frighten us into voting for the Party that kills children.

It's good to be concerned about the environment. We have made tremendous progress in cleaning up our home planet over the last 60 years, just as we have done so much to eradicate racism in our cultures. We should continue with diligence.

But there is no grace in panicking our youth with poisonous thought about how racism and pollution are worse than they've ever been. We are not going to die in the next few years or decades or centuries. There isn't much that we can do to change the trajectory of the earth's climate.... but we should reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, anyhow. It will take time.

From what I've heard and read coming from Greta Thunberg she most definitely smacks of nihilism and I find that sad and troubling.
It is why so many teens are committing suicide!
Being passionate about the ecology of the planet is one thing, but despairing about life is another.
Playing that negativity in order to control something that can not be controlled (the climate) only leads to frustration. Add to that the media circus she's become the poster child for and that kind of notoriety is deadly unless a child is very well grounded.
She's not. At least she doesn't seem like it.
But she does seem serious.
Society has ruined her life and the lives of her generation.
That sets up the straw man.
Can't deal with life? Get discouraged?
Drink the Kool-aid. The straw man made you do it.
That's the broken record we're hearing.
It's playing in Sweden, and it's playing in your town and mine :(

Drama Queen Greta busted.

From the article:

It’s just a bunch of hot air.

A German railway company has taken back an apology they made to Greta Thunberg after they realized the climate activist wasn’t schlepping it on the train’s floor but instead was treated “friendly” in first class.
