A JAG Bamboo Poker

Post by joegoat » Thu May 25, 2017 7:13 am

Well, My wife and I finally got around to taking some pictures of this one. It's my first since the Chicago show and uses briar and bamboo that I brought back with me. So here it is; a JAG Bamboo Poker. Lessons from my first bamboo mounted pipe are this: bamboo has its own imperfections that are tough to remove without making the problem worse so it's better to just leave them alone and call them character marks, there is a lot of tedious handwork getting all of the pieces to fit together flush and smooth, and too much glue on the tenons makes for quite the mess when they are pressed into place.
The rustication was my first go with the home made finishing nail tool technique. I'm impressed with how it came out.
The rim is a natural finish. I thought it paired so nicely with the bamboo and against the black of the rustication that I couldn't bring myself to apply even the lightest of stains to it.
This is also the first pipe to showcase my dot design on the stem. I'm pretty sure I picked a unique one. It's an aluminum ring with a wooden center.

It's a beauty, joegoat.
You really do have a knack for this pipemaking thing.

It has come very easily. I learn something new with each pipe and I can see them getting better over time. I have lots of great pipe makers to look up to!
