There are some really tricky lines on that pipe - the back of the bowl from top to heel, the way the shank has diverging and complimentary curves top and bottom, the diameter of the stem at the joint matches up to the imaginary continuation lines of the shank, the collar on the stem is just a tick larger than the ring on the shank - and you've nailed them all. At least to my eye. So far.
The button is a little thick.

I still need to bend the stem, obviously, but so far I'm fairly pleased with how it's coming out. I think I'm going to attempt this one as a smooth. It's got fairly decent grain and no flaws...which is pretty rare for the blocks I can afford. I have some tweaking left to do on the top side of the shank and then I need to smooth out some flats that I can't see, but I can feel them. Then it will be time to stain.

Plenty left to do. Started the oiling process tonight, so I still have a few days. Also, still need to attach the shank ring, but will do that last after the finish is done. Oh, and I need to make a tenon as the one in it now is a place holder until after I bend the stem. All in all, though, I think it's shaping up decently. Though I do wish the grain was as nice as it is on this side of the bowl everywhere else.

Repeat'ish pics, but I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished. Few more days of oiling and then some final buffs and still have to bend the stem...

This is coming out pretty cool. Some work left, but should be neat for someone into scuba...or just likes old helmets.

Coming along...

Got everything polished, but still need to stamp it and bowl coat it. This one is a step forward for me, personally, I think. I still see plenty of areas that need improving, but I'm going to call this one "good enough"...

My secret santa sent me a strawberry briar block and though it doesn't show up in this photo, it has killer ring grain. By far the nicest ring grain I have ever personally worked with. Here's hoping I don't screw it up...

Will you blast it, or send it out, or have some other way to highlight the ring grain? I am fascinated by ring grain...just love it!

Definitely blast it if I can. There's some sort of flaw in the bottom of the chamber that you can also see on the outside, but it's weird. I'm not sure it's really a flaw so much as just a darker spot in the wood. I've never worked with strawberry briar so not sure about it.

I just cut a tenon by hand on a wood lathe. Many have done this before, better than myself. But this is my first, and it doesn't suck. But it was super slow!

That's no small feat.
