Two or three years ago I attempted a clear shank reverse calabash and failed miserably. Time to try again...wasn't easy for me to turn down that tenon on a wood lathe. Had to be just right.

'Turn' it close, then use fine files and sandpaper to sneak up on it.

Also, I like where this is going. Keep us posted.

Not sure how this will hold up long term (I'm considering trying to put in a couple brass pins through the ebonite cap and briar tenon). In the meantime, I tried to put a lot of grooves (there are also some inside the mortise of the ebonite cap) to help create a physical bond as well as a chemical one.

This was supposed to be an eskimo, but I messed up. But the direction it's going is showing some promise...

That top grain gives me a tingle.

I dig white stems.

That pipe did not want to be an Eskimo. Keep having your way with it.

I was hoping for a smooth out of this one, but it will have to be sandblasted...

Yeah I noticed the pits on the bottom. One looked pretty big. It'll look nice with a blasted body, smooth rim. Maybe even an unstained rim if you dig three colored pipes with lots of contrast. I like the shape.

First time trying to shape a tomato. This shape is a pain to get the curves all the way around just right.

You can't tell in this pic, but there's about 2 hours of tweaks from the first pic of this pipe. This squat tomato shape is a fickle little turd. You tweak one spot only for it to mess up another. Currently state...
