Idols are bad

Post by coco » Sun Jan 24, 2010 10:58 pm

A lady walked into my office today, and said that she had been affected by the message on Sunday. I talked a lot about fearlessly standing up for Christ when our parents/friends/culture want us to do otherwise. She is considering turning her back on the traditional religion of the island. If she rejects idolatry, the repercussions from her family may be severe. Pray for her.
Luke 18:29-30 wrote:“Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30 who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”

Happy to pray for her. I'll double-up and include the family, too.

You betcha! I remember how rough it was on the locals there when they became Christian.

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6,7 ESV

Coco is a Baptist missionary on an island off the coast of Japan.
===================
An old priest (who grew up near my home in Wisconsin) has been a missionary in Tanzania for over 40 years. He comes back to beg every year, and brings video of his recent work.

His work has been very successful. He is the last white priest in the area; all others have retired. Most parishes are now run by native African priests. He builds roads (with 40 year old tractors when he can afford fuel), and schools and clinics and chapels.

He reports that it is still difficult to break the superstitions and voodoo in his parishes.
